Unfortunately I decided to give this book a two out of five.

I currently possess the 2014, i.e. the 4th edition of the book. Despite the edition being very recent, the book still mostly contains empirical studies from the previous century, 1980s and 1990s to be more precise. Even though some fundamental mechanisms have surely remained the same, recent studies often produce different, if not contradictory, results. Furthermore, it lacks the more recent trends in M&A, particularly during the period following the financial crisis in 2008. Similarly, even though the book features a number of well-thought-through cases, it fails to provide the reader with most recent cases. Finally, the text is not always written in the most concise way - there isn't always a clear separation of definitions and some concepts (which I believe are crucial in the context of takeovers) only had one of two sentences written about them.

However, overall the book is well-structured.
