Dives in Misericordia (Latin for "Rich in Mercy") is the name of the second encyclical written by Saint Pope John Paul II. It is a deeply theological examination of the role of mercy — both God's mercy, and also the need for human mercy — introducing the biblical parable of the Prodigal Son as a central theme. The encyclical was promulgated on November 30, 1980.

No podemos olvidar la gran enseñanza que san Juan Pablo II ofreció en su segunda encíclica Dives in misericordia, que en su momento llegó sin ser esperada y tomó a muchos por sorpresa en razón del tema que afrontaba. This document is a beautiful meditation on the Father who is rich in mercy. St. John Paul II makes an explicit connection here with the divine love as it is manifested and revealed in Christ.

Overall it is a great read. His meditation on the parable of the Prodigal Son at the heart of the document superbly raises to the surface the importance of the moral dimension of identity and its loss through sin.

We should never forget how God is always merciful. We should remember how Mary and Christ's life is a constant proof of His mercy, how the forgiving of our sins is a proof of His mercy, and how we need to be the ones to ask, receive, spread that mercy of His for our salvation. I think this is the phrase that resumes this book in the best manner. A favorite.

Very short. It was very good for me to read (stubborn). Mercy & forgiveness are often things many forget about.
