“Tunnel/The Lost Diary” is a complicated novel with a generous number of plot threads and what seems like a huge cast of characters. Basically, the premise involves the closing days of World War II and the Russian Army in the time of Stalin. A superior Russian officer orders two suitcases of gold to be well-concealed in an abandoned mining tunnel in Latvia, which at that time suffered under Russian occupation. The subordinate officer who transports the suitcases knows they contain gold, and late

Interesting story but, frequent geographical and temporal switches between the last year of WWII in Latvia and modern days USA without any lead-in made for slow and confusing reading. He recalled that the wagon the three men were pushing was on the incoming rail, on the right hand side of the tunnel. He also figured the wagon could not have been driven any fu

TUNNEL / The Lost Diary by Steven Nedelton is a fast paced thriller set in 1960's America. The mess all starts in Latvia at the end of WWII when a soldier steals two heavy suitcases and goes AWOL. Nearly 20 years later when the soldier and his accomplices feel safe, the contents of the suitcases suddenly become very important and sought after by a number of organizations.

Nedelton keeps the reader guessing throughout the book as the plot twists and turns in several unexpected directions. My only
