Mara the Greek tycoon's daughter arrives at the beginning of term with a huge bodyguard. She bitterly resents the constant presence at the school of Papa and his bullet-proof limousine - but is she really in danger of being kidnapped? When Mara disappears, Rebecca and her friends' desperate search reveals more than one surprise.
Five books in the series and another average entry - it certainly moves slower than a lot of school series which would have them well and truly in the upper end of school by this point. This one goes to the beat of its own drum thought which is both positive and negative. Not a bad yarn but you would be hard pressed to remember details after a while, just a big picture feel. Trebizon #5 Anne Digby #5
Another intriguing tale - this time involving a missing friend and a new girl at Trebizon. I really like how Digby manages to make the mysteries serious, but not too much so! An enjoyable series about friendships and mysteries.
I read these books when I was a kid. They were really good! Recommended for anyone who loves a good boarding school story. They were a bit more grown up and modern than Malory Towers etc.
Eh, this one was pretty ridiculous. And absolutely no mention of any academics or Rebecca's literary ambitions. You'd barely know they were at boarding school.
I think this one is the most eventful of all the books so far, and for some reason I've enjoyed it the least, but it was still a good read! Very quick, but good!
Reread in January 2019. Loved this so much! Very cosy, like a warm hug. I love girl detectives so much.
---- So good, as always. It references previous books too which is always very rewarding for devoted readers. I loved the plot but it seems to me there's a huge hole as by the end we still don't know who the kidnappers were. Still, a plot more intricate that I expected, awesome characters who take action and are making my productive days seem like lazy Sundays. I love this series, cannot recommend it enough.
Why is my edition only here in Dutch? Anyway, another great story about Rebecca and her friends - my absolute favourite bit is Mara's dad's description of his interview with Miss Welbeck. The precocious Lucy Hubbard and her incompetent mum are good value entertainment, and the plot is well-structured and nicely paced.
Lucy Hubbard, the "new girl", is mocked, shamed and derided solely for the crime of being cleverer than the others. It's quite relentless. One star for this poisonous little piece which I suddenly remembered out of nowhere.
Been a while since I've read Trebizon. Didn't overly love this one, not sure if it's just a series that doesn't hold up as well or if this installment in particular is just weaker than the rest.
