After the excitement of war, Nicholas found life as a civilian stifling. His boredom soon lifted when the notorious courtesan Susanna Kellaway claimed a lease on one of his houses. No sooner did they meet than Nicholas became truly puzzled. Though Nicholas had every cause to dislike her, this "Susanna" was an odd mix of seductive manners, intelligence, and ... innocence! So much so that he was beginning to wonder if the woman wasn't an impostor! Which didn't stop him from asking her to be his mistress. But the lovely lady had a more permanent idea in mind for the dashing earl ...

Note: Read this series in this order: The Virtuous Cyprian, Miss Verey's Proposal, and then lastly, 'Lady Polly'!
It was a Harlequin! It was published in 1998 in the UK and 2001 in the U.S. Authors have to start somewhere and Harlequin is a good a place as any. That being said: I liked it. I liked the H/H, but their story was a little far fetched. And, of course, the heroine has to keep her secret when she should have told the hero what was going on with her and her sister. Oh well, I guess there wouldn't have been much of a story. Some of the segues from scene to scene were disjointed, but all and all I am glad I read it. Of course, this is a series so I have to read the next book to see what happens in the life of Miss Polly. If you want a fast read and not too much depth, this one is for you.
This was the first book in the Suffolk series and I had read Lady Polly first. It was an interesting romance between Lucille Kellaway pretending to be her sister and the Earl of Seagrave, Nicholas. There were some improbable situations towards the end but overall it was an enjoyable read.
Three stars because I could read & finish the book, but otherwise... It was a boring and a long-drawn-our story. The hero was too stuffy/aloof and the heroine was too naive. Their “love” was not credible enough, overall the romance was too shallow and the end was too awfully un-romantic.
this book as alright i like the idea of twins swoping places even if they are nothing a like in personality. im not too shore of the hero maybe because we didn't get a lot of his side of the story.
Definitely in the realm of Bridgerton, lots of love, romance, intrigue and misunderstandings!! Absolutely brilliant and totally unputdownable. Highly recommended for lovers of this genre.
Kinda blah. Style of writing is definitely not up to the mark of S.Laurens, J.Quinn, S. Jeffries, L.Kleypas. Struggling thru it. *yawn* Writing is over dramatic, So hard to believe the heroine can fall in love with the guy after barely meeting him a handful of times. Hardly any interaction btwn them & she's already in love. Duh.
It was a switcharoo between twins. But at least Seagrave got the right twin. And Lucille is a brave one for braving the censure that her twin sister had accumulated through that one's years.
I suppose there was nothing wrong with this book, but it certainly wasn't one of my favorites. It was rather odd to have the book told almost entirely from the heroine's point of view, rather than going back and forth as is usual in these romances.
I always love the hero named Nicholas ^_^ But Lucille is too plain for a twin of Suzanne :( This is one of my first Historical Romances. I read a paperback, not e-book.
