Opened this after reading an article claiming that the world of work belonged to non-fiction rather than fiction. The "reasoning" behind this had nothing to do with the increasing insularity of some venues of literary fiction, nor the fact that many of its characters nowadays are people of leisure (as if writers can't quite grasp that people with jobs have inner lives). Lanchester, the writer, claimed that work in fiction was too complicated, and of all things, unlikely.
