Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) was an English poet, critic, and philosopher who was, along with his friend William Wordsworth, one of the founders of the Romantic Movement in England and one of the Lake Poets. He is probably best known for his poems The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan, as well as his major prose work Biographia Literaria.

We really enjoy the Poetry for Young People series, and Coleridge is such a delightful poet. I loved getting to introduce my girls to "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and they were fascinated by "Kubla Khan" (and the story of Coleridge being interrupted by the unwanted guest, causing him to forget his dream and leave the poem unfinished), though they would like to protest that "Sonnet to a River Otter" doesn't have any otters in it.

It's a fun poems book. Some poems are easy to understand and some are hard but they are fun to read!!

I liked the short biography and the sampling of his works.

What a great series to introduce you to a variety of poets. Great biography at the beginning. Understandable and fun. The art goes with the poems extremely well and enhances the understanding of it. I'm impressed!

I did get an overview of some of his work but suspect there are much better short overviews elsewhere.
