Faced with a court-martial for engaging the enemy against orders, two young men, Serageant David Griffin and Corporal Steven Downs, find themselves questioning their faith in themselves, their commanders, and eventually in the Corps intself. Reprint.
Read this first back in the 90s, then the Beruit Marine Barracks bombing (and Embassy bombings) were fresher. Now they are for most completely forgotten or never known. I would look at it now as a great piece of histoical fiction covering those events. It also covers themes of leadership, friendship, and standing for something bigger. While failures in leadership at higher levels and creep of politics into the tactical aspects of war have led to so many disasters that have befallen our troops.
I don’t recall what the author’s military experience was but I found the book very authentic on that aspect.
Lots of thoughts from the characters in the story. The author told a good story of feelings within the men in uniform. More than just comrades, more of a family.
Very accurate depiction. A must read regardless of whether you have been in the military or not. Author keeps you tuned in with great storytelling. A real page turner.
A story about how our troops are handcuffed when engaging in battle, especially when our Government has not declared it a war. How sad for our men & women in uniform trying to defend our country while a bunch of left wingers try & destroy our morals & this country. God Bless America!!!!!!!
