Little man loves Thomas the Tank, so I picked this up at the used bookstore without even opening it. It's essentially a rhyming train version of the tortoise and the hare fable. It's a bit on the nose with its conclusion. Using the terms "vain" and "vanity" in a board book seems a little beyond the audience, but hey it helped the rhyme! A fairly solid story nonetheless if you have a Thomas fan.

Fast and Slow Story Time.

Take-off of "The Tortoise and the Hare." James and Edward enter a race. James is fast and Edward is slow. Along the way James passes by his friends in need while Edward stops to help. James is about to win when he stops to admire his reflection in the water and Edward overtakes him.

Basically a retelling of the tortoise and the hare, but my toddler just likes that it has Thomas in it.

A bit lofty in its message for a board book! My toddler was having difficulty just figuring out the difference between Edward and Thomas.

I am so sick of reading this book to my toddler but he loves it and demands that I read it at least five times in a row. Thomas is not a character in this book but yet he is hanging out like a creep in the background of almost every page. What is with these trains being "useful" and since when is "Really Useful" a proper noun? I was so tired of reading this book that I actually resorted to hiding it under the couch cushion for a few days. The only reason why I am giving this book 2 stars is because my child loves it so much. Overall, I hate this book and I can't wait to return it to the library.

This is the Thomas version of the tortoise and the hare. One races past the other while one helps others on his way but by the end... I wont tell you. You have to read your own thomas book. Ages 3+

Tortoise and the Hare in Thomas world with a side lesson in being vain. Kids may miss the lesson but enjoy the trains.
