101 Essential Tips Cat Care is an excellent cat book for the novice cat owner although seasoned cat owners would enjoy reading this book too thanks to the great photos. The 101 Essential Tips Cat Care book covers such topics as:

*Is a cat right for you?
*Cat selection
*Cat training
*Cat health topics
*What to feed a cat

You will find numerous cat photos illustrating the topic being discussed. For example you'll see photos on how to give your cat medication or how to bathe a cat. Yes, bathe a cat.

If you love cats, you'll also love this book as you'll see plenty of cat photos of varying breeds. In fact, you'll see a couple lovely photos of British Shorthairs, Siamese or Persians.

Recommend.

I wish I had not bought this book. There are cute photos of cats but it was printed in China and this book is affiliated with pharmaceutical companies. I was surprised by all of the bad advice for letting your cat outdoors on page 25. Unless its a barn cat, I found the advice really bad. Under caring for an elderly cat, they mentioned putting the cat to sleep which I feel should be a separate section. A very disappointing book.

Was really easy and fast to read and I did learn some things I didn't know. Best for people who want to get a cat and don't know too much about owning one. The size of the book is nice and smol so it was very cute to read.

This is a quick read and a nice little book about basic cat care. I picked up some tips on grooming from it that were good to know, and the information about a cat's third eyelid indicating sickness was new to me.

So far the book had several tips on behaviors, health and first-aid. I only rated it four stars because it doesn't have any tips on bathing, dieting or even physical activity.

Good book for anyone who has a cat. My vet gave me a copy, I think. If not, still worth the buy. It also has pictures so you can see what they are referring to which as a cat mom can be a bit difficult if administering care. :)

101 Essential Tips: Cat Care is an easily digestible guide to cat ownership intended for kids. The book is beautifully presented with many photographs and each tip is in small, easy to digest chunks. It's a type of manual that you give a child to read before actually choosing a pet to help them understand the responsibility in the decision and how to make the best choices.

The tips are arranged chronologically; e.g., choosing a cat through to medical care. Since the tips are short, some may be more a factoid than a usable instruction (e.g., one tip is that cats are trainable - not really going into the actual process of doing so). But keeping the tips brief ensures a child can easily digest the information. Adults may not find anything new in here but there are some good reminders of things cat owners should be doing regularly (e.g, trimming nails, medical checks, etc.) as well as updated information (it's never really a good idea to let a cat out at night any more and definitely no milk).

Because the book is so nicely presented, it's really not a chore to read. There are pictures for each tip and the pictures are applicable to the tip, not just random cat/kitten stock. The book doesn't talk down to a child so it is suitable for a wide range of ages. Topics include breeds, short/long hair, acclimating a new cat, kitten or adult adoption, insurance, wounds, fleas/ticks, body language, unwanted presents, finding a missing cat, rewards, brushing teeth, washing a cat, grooming, treats, food, meeting other pets, single or multiple cat adoptions, and more.

I read through most of the book in under an hour. Each tip is about a paragraph long with an accompanying picture. Some tips, such as medical issues or how much food to give, are a bit longer or have tables. As such, this makes a great reference guide.

For me, I really appreciated the emphasis on acclimating a new cat to a home or outdoors. But also there were some surprising tidbits I hadn't thought about previously. I really wish I had had this when we adopted a cat 2 years ago; I would have loved to go over it with my then 8 year old so she understood the responsibilities of cat care better than just from my memory of past cats.

In all, a very nice guidebook for kids - not too childish and not boring at all.

We recently adopted two kittens and during our first vet visit, our girls were each given one of these books as part of a kit from revolution (flea and heartworm repellent). The vet strongly enouraged our girls to read these books to learn more about caring for their new pets.

The book has a simple format, with numerous chapters about choosing, housing, feeding, grooming, and understanding your cat, with additional chapters on health, first aid, and caring for a sick cat. The chapters are short, with basic information and there are a lot of color photographs. It's a good book to read when adopting a cat for the first time, but it's also a handy reference manual, to answer questions that pop up from time to time. Overall, I liked the book and think that it's a useful present from the vet.
