This is certainly a decent houseplant book, if dated (in terms of scientific names and general format - most information about houseplants is pretty evergreen (get it)). The first 60 pages or so are magazine-style with lots of photographs - close-up plant porn and suggestions for how to decorate (I guess this was Pinterest in the 70s). Most of the book from there out is an A-Z guide with a page or spread dedicated to specific plants. Finally, in the back, in small text, is the real information: ...more

I found this book second-hand and it's just what I needed. Most of the book is a guides to of all the kinds of houseplants, alphabetically by latin name. I was surprised when doing online research for plant care that different sites sometimes said different things, so it's nice to have a definitive guide. It's not 5-star because there are new houseplants since this book was published.

Despite being a book from the late 70s it's still a pretty good reference - even though it's not completely up to date.

Great guide to cultivation of most common and quite a lot of exotic houseplants.

Initial section on appreciation and use of houseplants ut the bulk of the book is mad eup of the A-Z.

Illustrated mostly with monochrome line drawings or coloured sketches, each entry gives general info followed y recommended varieties/cultivars and details of how to care for the plant covering light, temperature, watering, feeding, potting/repotting and propagation requirements.

Different Reader's Digest Success With Houseplants Cover -mine published in 1979

480 pages of clear articles, good botanical drawings and some photos lend to easy plant identification. Thorough Glossary and Index. Sections on plant health, pests and disease especially helpful.

Good refference and "how to" volume.

So far, so good! I just found this 1979 copy in a book sale, but everything I'm seeing is still good information.
