John Wesley is recognized as the founder of Methodism. An acclaimed preacher, Wesley travelled extensively on horseback and drew large crowds for his outdoor sermons. A contemporary of William Wilberforce, Wesley was a strong voice opposing slavery in England and the United States. His influence upon modern Christianity can be seen by the large number of Methodist organizations in the Wesleyan tradition all over the world.
I grew up in the Methodist church, but this is the first time I’ve read Wesley for myself. His story of salvation is beautiful, and his letters/sermons exude wisdom and holiness. His emphasis on the nature and work of the Holy Spirit is something that the church today would be sure to benefit from. I particularly enjoyed his sermon on stewardship-it was the best I’ve ever heard/read on the the topic.
This book is a version of Wesley's sermons in regard to the Holy Spirit. It is really a great book. I learned a lot and I hope I won't forget all that is in this book, because John Wesley's sermons are so deep and true.
John Wesley has always been one of my heroes of the faith. This book of updated sermons on the Holy Spirit is very readable and full of timeless insights.
