This story feels like an allegory and from that viewpoint it soars, dips, spins wildly around its central theme, and certainly touched my own heart's periodic desire and longing to go home. Plus, it is the first published book by an author I have come to admire and adore. Amusingly, I think, I believe I like this book more because I have read this author's latest and then some. So allow me to recommend that you read this after at least savoring "Visions" or "Vapor" and then go back home and enjo ...more

Slow starting

The fist half of this was annoying. I skipped through quite a bit of it. In order for the readers to view Mercedes as the spoiled brat and worthy of the treatment she got from Nelda you have to allow her to act the part. Her thoughts of going and breaking up the wedding do not count. I felt she reacted to a lot of unwarranted back handed comments at the beginning. Then we were able to see this annoyingly immature adult. It was too much for me. By the middle it picked up for me. Stil

Larkin Rose lives in a “blink and you’ve missed it” town in the beautiful state of South Carolina with her partner, Rose (hence the pen name). Her writing career began some years ago when the voices in her head wouldn’t stop their constant chatter. After ruling out multiple personalities, and hitting the keyboard, a writer was born. The voices continue. The clatter of keys continues. The birth of ...more
