Good book on overcoming different fears

This was a good book in dealing with certain fears from a biblical standpoint. I definitely highlighted the scriptures that I will use in dealing with some fears and phobias. I even recognized fears I never thought I had until reading this book. Thanks to the author for such a helpful book.

We are Overcomers

I enjoyed reading this book. I loved that not only were there helpful tips, but she used the Word of God as her main points of reference. There is no fear when we put our faith and trust in God. We are overcomers.

MY REVIEW:

I like the concept of 30 Days to Taming Your Fears - although I don't like the idea of putting an exact number on how long it should take one to tame their fears - but I think that this book on fear misses it's mark on getting to the heart of the matter. Deborah has provided a comprehensive look - day by day - of many of the fears that we face and has also provided many practical tips for overcoming them. But as someone well acquainted with fear, I know that these tips don't dig down deep enough to truly tame the fears that rise up within.

Shortly in to the book Deborah says "I believe with all my heart "that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose" (Roman 8:28) - even if I never comprehend what the "good" is. Therefore, I never asked, "Why me?" Because she leaves off verse 29 no one will ever be able to see the "good" in all situations - which is to grow more and more into the likeness of the Son, Jesus Christ, through the shaping and molding that all things in our life produces. It is faulty, surface level beliefs like this one that continue through out this book and while they may be informative and change your thoughts for a few moments, they do not change the core problem which in turn provides long term change.

It's a cute book with an appealing cover and title, but it's not one to read.

Fear seems to be constantly around us. In the news, personal fears, professional fears, a moment doesn't go by that we don't seem to be battling a phobia, or thoughts of "what if", "...but", "maybe" and other slew of fears that keeps us from moving forward, and often either stuck in a past that we no longer have control or can change, or prevent us from having a future that means a second chance or an opportunity for growth.

Not a cure all solution, but rather a proactive, take a step forward,"30 Days to Taming Your Fears", challenges, encourages and helps the reader face the fears that keep them from moving on, from growing into the person, our Father in Heaven, calls us to be, and to erase those nagging doubts that seem to whisper to us, late at night, in the form of others, or maybe in memories that holds us back.

A small paperback book that can easily fit into a purse, a bag, and on the nightstand,"30 Days to Taming Your Fears", is about making those growth encouraging steps so we can move forward in our lives.

Filled with encouraging stories, steps that can be taken and just overall, "you're not alone in this and this can be overcome", the reader, will find, "30 Days to Taming Your Fears", to be a book that shows how like Daniel facing the lions, we too can find the strength and the courage to face the things, be it real or mental, that holds us past.

Life is never going to be perfect, but neither should it be something that is cut short, by the fears that we have, and they are real fears to us, but, Ms. Deborah Smith Pegues, will show you how, you can truly live more of a life as God wants you to live.

So if you find yourself, laying awake at night, haunted by memories that hold you back, or those nagging whispers by those around you, or maybe you say to yourself, to not move forward, I invite you to read, "30 Days to Taming Your Fears" and learn how those fears, those doubts, can indeed be tamed and you can find the strength to move forward, not backwards or standing still.

I ordered this book after seeing this author interviewed on television. There is a scripture appendix which is helpful and a powerful fear-banishing prayer at the back of the book. The majority of the book, however, seems somewhat simplistic for anyone suffering from significant fear but I think it's a good starting place.

My favorite piece of advice from the book...(only because it made me LOL) was this advice for fear of rejection...."For example, you may call up a former friend or boyfriend and say, 'Listen, I'd like to get some feedback from you for my personal development. My objective here is not to resume our relationship. I would just like to ask what it was that made you decide to terminate our relationship? I'd really appreciate your honest feedback.' ....maybe it's just me but I'm not thinking a conversation like that is going to be very encouraging or affirming for someone who has a significant fear of rejection.
