Fairly typical tale of JSF set in a small coastal village. Our narrator is a young trainee solicitor living with his older sister. One day out of the blue a long lost uncle appears and asks to be put up. During the night they hear a blood curdling scream of agony and when they investigate they find a dead stranger tied to the old gallows by the shore. The uncle couldn't have done it as he was asleep in bed although he is thought to be up to no good. This sets the story in motion and the police s ...more

Ben is recovering from illness when his life is turned upside down by the appearance of his no good Uncle Joseph Krevin. The mystery is a little thin on the ground in this one - it reads more like a boy's adventure story than anything - but, still, enjoyable enough as these things go.

A fairly entertaining adventure tale with some interesting characters. It has to be said that the ending is a little undramatic but, overall, it is a good page-turner.
