Soon after a famous explorer returns from two years of captivity in the Amazon to the bosom of his not-so-loving family, he is nearly killed in an automobile accident and then, seemingly, poisoned by his uncle. Corrie Haynes, girl reporter, sets out to investigate the supposed murder, posing as the explorer's widow.
A bit long but the suspense never lets up as intrepid reporter Corrie witnesses a poisoning and strives to get evidence against Jefferson's murder. The museum of death, secret passages, the manipulative Richard, multiple murderous attempts and every creak and shadow in Hampton House make this a cracking good yarn.
I haven't read this book in over 30 yrs. Bought a copy this week because I finally figured out the title of the book. I still think of it fondly and is one of those books I would have reread constantly if I had only owned the book.
It took me a while to get into this book. In fact, I almost didn't finish reading it. It ended up being a very satisfying read. It was full of suspense and kept me guessing. I will have to check out other books by this Author. *******Reread
