The Magic Pony Carousel has come to town! Laura loves ponies, and she can't wait to ride Star the western pony. When she climbs on to Star's saddle, the ride takes them back in time to the Wild West, where they must save a baby calf! Will Laura and Star be able to save the day?
My 3.5 year old daughter picked this out at the library. While she sat through it all, there really weren't enough illustrations to hold her interest. Her 5.5 year old brother understood and followed the story best.
I do think this would be a really fun series for a young girl who loves horses to read, either as an independent early reader or as a read aloud with mom or dad. The idea is that there is a magic carousel that transports riders to a different place and time while they enjoy an adventure with the horse (star was a wild west cowgirl horse, so that was the adventure for this book). We did not miss anything by starting with book 3. The story follows a simple conflict resolution plot line and would work well for teaching early literacy concepts.
