A colorfully illustrated picture book provides young readers with a simple introduction to the months of the year as two mice celebrate their love for one another through the changing seasons.
Susan L. Roth creates unique mixed-media collage illustrations that have appeared in numerous award-winning children’s books, many of which she also wrote. Her book, Listen to the Wind, spent a year on the New York Times best seller list. The Mangrove Tree, which was released in 2011 and addressed Dr. Gordon Sato's mangrove tree-planting project, was the winner of Jane Addams Children's Book Award. Roth lives in New York.
I love the idea of going through the calendar year for the "I love yous". Some of them are more original than others ("warmer than a snowsuit in January" versus "softer than April rains"). The different adjectives to describe the love had me contemplating the ways love appears in those ways (warmer, softer, brighter, etc.), and would be a fun topic to discuss with the kiddo you're reading with. I think this book ought to be a household staple like Eric Carle and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
I love well done art for children. Susan is an awesom college artist. Great use of color, different paper qualities and well written verse. PreK3-K months of the year book.
This was a very cute book and I really enjoyed hearing it. The book was about your love for the person who you're reading it to. I feel you you could do so many learning experiences and activities having to do with this book. This book not only teaches children the months that are found in a year but also makes more relatable so that children could remember what it feeling like in every month. I feel like I would want to send this book home with the children every so often to let their parents read it to them so that they will feel loved. or give them an activity of showing how much they love their parents and tell them to draw something about it and then they would give it to their parents.
This would be a great book when first introducing months to a preschool, kindergarten, and possibly a first grade classroom. The students would be able to compare and contrast the differences between the different months of the year. They would learn about weather, holidays, and other events that happen throughout the months of the year. You could also introduce the months-of-the-year song to your students.
This picture book is talk about months of the year and 4 seasons, using simple text and very beautiful illustrations. It is a great book for young children to learn about months of the year, seasons and celebrations. Illustrations are very detailed and easy to understand the story. This book is very helpful for young children to learn more vocabulary.
This book can be used to express the love that parents have for their child, seasons, months of the year, or to pull vocabulary from. I used this book during October and we focused on the fall and the children enjoyed the writing activity I attached to the book. There are countless uses for this book, or you can just read it to a child and share your love with them, and find out what they love.
This is such a beautiful social, emotional story for young children. The story shows how no matter the weather or the season someone will love you literally all year round. The illustrations were very beautiful and it is such a sweet and warm story I would definitely use for a lesson plan on seasons or even for Valentine's Day.
This book can be read all at once, or a page a month. What a teaching experience, seasons, months, seasonal vocabulary, similes. It can go on forever. I heard this book in class being used to teach about fall, and it was a wonderful experience field with rich vocabulary.
This is a good book for parents to express how much they love their children. It’s a good book because it teachers children the four seasons and holidays. It also has good vocabulary for children to hear.
This is a good social emotional book to talk about the love we have for other people. It can also be used to talk about the seasonal changes we see. In the classroom you could do a mouse theme and read only mouse books that cover many topics. This book is perfect for something like that.
The pictures are easy to identify and colorful and the book concept can fit in a variety of domains. I like how you can focus on one particular season and do a lesson on that or the whole book. It simple and easy message is warm and caring to read at any age group up to Pre-k.
cut paper collages provide a beautiful background for this book that highlights each month of the year. fun to read...one on one rather than storytime material.
