I wanted to like this. I liked a lot of the descriptions, especially what it feels like to ride a bike, especially in Italy, which I can only fantasize about.
The story line is certainly filled with good guys and bad guys and suspense.
It's the dialogue. It is so contrived and incongruous. Characters engage in lengthy cliché-laden conversations even in bike races. I felt insulted.
I can't stand saying this, because this is so not what the local cycling scene was saying about it. It was met with raving reviews. So who knows, you might enjoy it.
