A difficult guitar method that can feel like a slog at times, but ultimately it is worth the effort. My sight reading, chord knowledge, and scale understanding has improved due to this book. It took me nearly a year to finish it, so I'll be taking a break before jumping in to Volume 3.
A Modern Method for Guitar, Volume 2: Guitar Technique is a great book for sight reading, scales, alternate fingerings for triads, chord forms and rhythms. Bill Leavitt continues in the same manner as A Modern Method for Guitar, Volume 1 and the reader is expected to refer back to it often. No reader should skip Volume 1 or they will be confused in Volume 2. Overall A Modern Method for Guitar, Volume 2: Guitar Technique is graded for difficulty well except for the triad studies which appear throughout the book. Some of the fingerings for the triads are difficult and the reader also has to transpose them into 11 remaining keys which is more time intensive. After practice the triads get easier but maybe the material should have appeared later in the book. In general this is a book that should be done slowly and carefully if the maximum benefit is to be achieved. This is a very good intermediate/advanced book.
The second book in the series starts off quickly compared to the first - the student is reading the entire neck on the first page! A continuation in excellence from the initial book in the series. Finishing this book will take the student to a serious intermediate/advanced level of reading, and will cover most of their reading needs in the future.
