About the author

William R. Bright was an American evangelist. In 1951 at the University of California, Los Angeles, he founded Campus Crusade for Christ as a ministry for university students. In 1952 he wrote The Four Spiritual Laws. In 1979 he produced the film Jesus.
In 1996 Bill Bright was awarded the $1.1 million Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion, and donated the money to promote the spiritual benefits of fasting and prayer. In 2001 he stepped down as leader of the organization and Steve Douglass became president.

Es un excelente libro que nos muestra sobre la importancia del ayuno y la oración para poder tener un avivamiento espiritual y poder acercarnos más hacia Dios.

La idea del autor con el libro es contarnos más sobre su proyecto de motivar a 2 millones de personas a realizar un ayuno de 40 días para poder alcanzar un Avivamiento a toda la nación de los Estados Unidos.

Aunque el libro tiene varios años de haber sido escrito, lo que el autor expone en los primeros capítulos no dejan de ser bastante relevantes en nuestra actualidad, ya que como sociedad cada vez vamos más hacia el pecado y menos hacia la presencia de Dios.

Este libro me gustó mucho ya que nos lleva por todo un recorrido sobre las causas que provocan que no vivamos un avivamiento y nos propone un método para poder alcanzar un Avivamiento tanto personal como de nación.

Este es un libro que recomendaría a todo aquel que desea conocer más sobre la importancia de buscar la presencia de Dios cada día y cómo hacerlo a través del ayuno.

I think I had perused this one before but actually read the whole thing since I need to return it to its owner. I was more interested in the fasting portions than in the America-is-going-downhill-morally sections. Umm...just wait till 30 years later! Even more corrupt! A bit was out of date since the author was confident the Great Commission would be fulfilled by the end of the year 2000. Because of this book, though, I completed my own 40 day juice/broth fast a few years ago. I would have never known it was possible without him paving the way and showing me how. For that, I'm grateful.

I’m pretty terrible about fasting, so I really appreciate any insights into fasting and methods some have found successful. That said, I found too much of this book to be focused on where America has failed; the language was quite condemning, and I’m always turned off by books that assume you agree with them and fail to approach those who disagree with love or understanding.

In late 1994, Bill Bright gather some of the leading people of God to come to Orlando, Florida for a time of fasting and prayer. Not many leaders could make such a request. They prayed for revival for themselves and for America. This book describes the value of fasting and prayer for believers. Good read. Good guide.

Although this was written on the mid 90's, I still
Feel it is applicable to our Christian experience and the revival we all desire and know is on the horizon. Great motivator to pray and fast and continue in the faith!
