¡Qué maravilla de novela! Lo he devorado prácticamente.

I thought this was going to be a sweet book, but I noticed that as I read it that the thought "sweet" never entered my mind. From the very beginning it was plain Eleanor loved Sean. So as he's leaving the country, she makes it pretty plain that she'll wait for him. I thought that would mean something to Sean, but evidently he couldn't have cared less.
He gets some broad named Peg pregnant, which is very charming by the way, and does the honorable thing by marrying her. But before he says his vows, Eleanor's face flashes before his mind, so of course, he goes on ahead with the wedding anyway.
Then, poor guy that he is, his wife is murdered while she's pregnant with his baby, and he's still haunted by that day.

News flash Eleanor! If his wife hadn't been murdered, he would still be married to her...hence making it impossible for him to marry you. He went into that marriage fully prepared to stay with her for the rest of his life. If that doesn't scream romantic love story for Eleanor, I don't know what does.

And to top it all off he comes back and she repeatedly throws herself at him and tries to be there for him to talk about his dark past in the pit. When he finally admits to having married another woman, she's only hurt for a little while, and then she comes crawling back to him and is sad for him because of his WIFE and child with ANOTHER woman is dead, and she feels sorry for him.

Then Benda Joyce manages to squeeze comments about Eleanor finding him with the village girls in the barn, like we wanna hear about that crap.

By the end of the book when Eleanor's pregnant, I'm not even buying his love for her, because he seems more interested in reuniting with Peg's son (who isn't his). She had to PLACE his hand on her own pregnant stomach.

Boy, Brenda Joyce, you have done it again. I've noticed a pattern in her books that just pisses me off, and I will not be reading any more books in this series.

If you are someone who has values and morals, and who thinks sex should be something sacred shared by two people for their FIRST time TOGETHER, then DO NOT read this book, because all the little comments about him doing other people will make your blood pressure skyrocket.
I've come to realize that Brenda Joyce is one of those romance authors who think that a girl's first time should be someone experienced and "virile" (and if I hear that word one more time I am seriously going to break something.)

The only thing I really like about this book is that they're a big, close family, and I do like that aspect. If only the story line and characters were a little more likeable.
I'll read this book again if I'm in the mood for torturing myself.

I absolutely loved The Masquerade and The Prize, so I was really excited to read this as well. This book was not romantic at all, it was annoying. It was basically Elle fighting for her step-brother Sean to acknowledge that he loves her for 99% of the book, he was blunt and rude about denying his feelings but she wouldn't give up ... and then mixed in with some war stories that I did not care to read about. That scene in the beginning when he steals into the house and they kiss/make out for the first time... blah. I found it to be emotionless, no build up, it was basically written in two to three paragraphs. Horrible. Then Sean kept pushing for her to get married to someone else for most of the book: not romantic. Hopefully Cliff's story next will be better....

I'm leaving another book unfinished. House-sitting for my fellow book loving friend, I'm reminded there are far too many stories to discover to waste time on disappointments.

This book should have been finished by now. The whole thing has been insanely repetitive. It's as though the main characters aren't sure you're paying attention, and repeat all their thoughts and actions, and the reasons behind them, literally, every three pages. I've read other books in this series, but none have been as tedious as this one. I'm right on the cusp of building climax, and I don't even care to see where it's going. I can't stand it when authors think their readers are so stupid with the mind of a goldfish.

this book was very well done, the paceing of the novel was perfect. it never felt rushed or draged out. the characters were also very involving however i did find the heroine to be oddly fickle just in the sence that she loved him so deeply then claimed to hate him the next second then twenty seconds later she realizes that she realy does love him after all, 300 pages of that gets a tad annoying but thats really the only major flaw. I defenitly want to read more De Warenne books and will be looking for them since this is the first one i'v read; i would realy like to learn more about the other characters!

So far, I am a big fan of Brenda Joyce’s De Warenne Dynasty! The Masquerade is one of my favourite HRs of all time, while The Conqueror was a lot more than fun than I expected (medieval is not my go-to). I had high expectations for The Stolen Bride, especially after seeing how Joyce set up Sean and Eleanor as a couple in The Prize. In my heart of hearts, I would have put Sean and Eleanor in a comedy of manners plot.

But alas we get the cloak and dagger, as befits the De Warennes. There are similarities to the previous novels in the series. Like Lizzie in The Masquerade, Eleanor has loved Sean since the first time she laid eyes on him. Like Virginia in The Prize, Eleanor makes that love very clear to the hero to reject on numerous occasions. There is even a Lady Blanche character in the form of Peter, Eleanor’s betrothed, decent and understanding human being and all around good guy, more or less.

Despite some “I hate you-jk-I love you” histrionics exhibited by Eleanor, she rarely compromises herself, however, in ways that made me feel bad for her, the way I did for Virginia in The Prize. That had a lot to do with Sean’s character as a wounded hero. His rejection of her was less hurtful because it was clear he was dealing with the fact that he literally escaped from prison where he had been held for the past two years without human company.

Even though we all with Eleanor at this point:

"She knew he had been through more suffering than any one man should ever bear, but she just couldn’t understand why he couldn’t accept their need for one another - why he couldn’t allow love to grow between them.”

The Stolen Bride is a good read if you enjoy stories that take place within short time frames and hero and heroines that grew up together raised as part of one big happy family. I don't particularly enjoy either of these two tropes but it didn't bother me or distract me from enjoying the story.

What I most enjoyed about The Stolen Bride was the rare flicker of humour. Eleanor is funny, and the favourite brother bit is an amusing long-running joke that nets a return each time. She’s pretty spunky and the flashbacks to her relationship with Sean over the years also added a layer of meaning and depth to their shared history and past. Eleanor is so cute, and each flashback was sweet and revealed so much more of Sean, and how he returned her love throughout the years without consciously knowing it. There is much more pathos with Sean as a tortured hero who realizes Eleanor's real worth in his life, after taking her for granted or not taking her seriously all this time. He can't easily access the suave person he used to be, the mask of a charming gentleman. In fact, he's barely able to string together a sentence because something to do with his vocal cords being slashed in prison etc. It's an interesting dynamic.

I can't wait to read Cliff's book!

My lower rating for this book is not a comment on the quality of the writing or the flow of the story. That all flowed fairly well. My issue with this book is that I was rather frustrated with the heroine's "I-hate-you/I-love-you" back and forth. I was a bit tiresome after a while. But it is part of the books drama, so I guess the author could not have made a less fickle heroine. Also, I felt like there should have been more of a resolution in regards to the major villain. Ultimately I do not recall any mention of his fate. It was a bit unsatisfying. I suppose I could have missed a quick mention of him, but I don't think so.

Not bad, not bad.

I'm finding I don't care for sucky tortured heroes - I'd rather they were just bastards who needed the love of good woman like me, or in other words, an alpha. They can be tortured, but they still need to be strong. I did like the writing, and the storytelling -- I'd read more of this series. Oh, the other thing that I liked was that you couldn't really tell it was part of a series! It stands by itself. What a nice change.

Rex, Sean'a bin basar bence, umarım sonuna doğru daha cesur olduğunu görürüm.

Orjinal Adı The Stolen Bride De Warren Dynasty Serisinin 8.Kitabı

The Stolen Bride is one of my favorites, it made me feel. The characters are living, breathing, and exist well within its pages. There are a handful of books from thousands that I would read again because I enjoy them that much, this is definitely one of them. I can honestly say this book inspired me as an author. Brenda Joyce rocks!

no.

I lost track of how many times Elle wanted Sean to come clean about his traumatizing past and his constant reaction was him deflecting all the time. It was annoying.
It felt like I was reading the same sentence over and over again.

Sean and Elenor have always been my favorite characters in this series and now their story is finally being told and its amazing (living up to Brenda Joyce's other amazing works). Elanor always loved her step brother (no blood relation) even when they were young, but he never seemed to look at her that way, only she was wrong. After being away for years Sean returns, but only to see that Elanor has been engaged. He can't admit it, but he hates it and despite meaning to leave without El ever seeing him she sees him and all the feelings she hoped to bypass upon her marriage return. Unable to let go she runs after him as he rides away, but they have many trial to face, including convincing Sean that he can't live without her and to make him admit he loves her.
Definitely worth the wait and the read! Its a must read for the Dewarren series.

An excellent read. I would actually give this one 4.5 stars but that wasn't possible so I stuck with the 4. It would have been a 5, but the heroine was annoying at times, forgiving in some ways and unforgiving to the point of petty in others. It's easily dismissed, however, because from the first page your gripped by the history of these two characters and their undeniable connection. The Hero/Heroine have grownup together and I love that the author writes in many of their memories and shared moments from the past. It enhances the drama and really make you beleive that these two characters are in love. I adorned the Hero, although not my favourite of all time, he was stellar and had immense passion in several scenes.

This first half of this book is HORRIBLE, slow, boring, and more adjectives.
La segunda parte es COMPLETAMENTE DIFERENTE. Rápida, adictiva, te sorprende, y te deja esperando más.
The second one is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Fast, addictive, it surprises you, and it leaves you wanting more.

Sean O'Neill had restored the manor home that had been in his family for almost four hundred years. The house had been destroyed by British troops. He had rebuilt Askeaton for his older brother, Devlin, while he had been a captain in the royal navy, engaged in war with the French. Devlin had resigned his commission and was returning to Askeaton to stay with his bride, Virginia.
Sean prepared to leave to find what was out in the world for him. His stepsister, Elle, came to see him. Eleanor had grown up while being away for school. Elle wanted to leave with Sean but he told her that he needed to leave but he promised that he would find his way back to her.
Four years later, in three days Elle was planning on getting married to Peter Sinclair. Sean had not been seen or heard from and his brothers had hired people to find him. On the eve of her wedding, Tyrell found out that Sean had escaped from the prison where he had been kept in a pit and forgotten about for the past two years. Tyrell was afraid that Sean would appear at any time. Elle's brothers, Rex, Ty, and Cliff all knew that Elle had always been in love with Sean but she had found someone that loved her. She had decided that something had happened to Sean and he was never coming back. She was going forward with her life and getting married. She was trying to convince herself that she was truly in love with Peter. He was English and came from a good family. He could provide well for Eleanor. He loved her and would treat her like a queen.
Sean found contacts that got him in touch with Rory McBane. Rory told Sean that he was going to Eleanor's wedding, not knowing Sean's true name and that he was an O'Neill. Sean found his way back home and saw his brothers and their wives while watching through a window from outside. He saw Elle with Peter and was jealous. He came out of the woods and let Elle see him the next morning when she was out riding. Elle tried to convince Sean to come see his family and get their help in gaining a pardon for Sean. Sean refused and told Elle that he was leaving again. She was upset and told him that she would get him some food and he could stay in her room until the next day. She would hide him there.
Sean was in a village and got a woman named Peg pregnant. She had a son, Michael. The villagers attacked and killed the Lord of the township and some soldiers. Sean had tried to stop them but failed. Sean had married Peg because she was pregnant but he never was in love with her. He tried to be a good father to her son. They lived outside of town and the soldiers found his home, attacked and raped Peg and burned their house down. The soldiers had caught Sean and put him in a pit. The warden had died and Sean was forgotten. Sean had taken the new warden hostage and escaped. Sean did not know what had happened to Michael but it was assumed that he burned in the house because he could not be found.
Elle went into Cliff's room to get clothes and the brothers became suspicious and found out that she was hiding Sean. There were soldiers looking for Sean and they were at and around Askeaton searching. The soldier that had raped and burned down Sean's home with Peg was leading the search for Sean. He did not want others to discover what he had done.
Sean came to her room that night and she gave him clothes and food. Eleanor knew that Sean was a shell of the man he once was. He was having trouble processing being out of the pit and was fearful of everything. He couldn't resist Elle's advances and they had sex that night. He was mostly out of his mind and when he realized what had happened he ran out on Elle. Elle went to find her brother Rex and told him that Sean had returned. Rex went out and tried to find Sean but he couldn't and told Elle to get some sleep because she was to be married the next day.
Eleanor dressed for her wedding and Sean snuck into her room to tell her goodbye. Sean left out her bedroom window because soldiers were downstairs watching for him. Elle ran down the stairs to catch up with him. Sean turned back and saw Elle, turned around and caught her. He pulled her on his horse behind him and rode off. Sean knew that he had put Elle in jeopardy by taking her and soon regretted what he had done. He was determined to see her returned safely home and married to Peter. Elle threw a fit and told Sean that she wasn't in love with Peter and that she would be staying with him.
Elle and Sean spent about a week hiding out and Elle learned more about what Sean had been through in the years that he was missing. They used the time to become friends once again and to explore their feelings of love for each other as adults. Elle found out that he was whipped and that he had been married. Elle was convinced that her love would return Sean to the person he had once been. She told Sean that she was in love with him and that she wouldn't give up on him and that she would never leave him. She was greatly disappointed when she learned that Sean had married Peg and refused to discuss his reasons for the marriage. It took some time for her to allow Sean to explain the reasons and that she was now dead. Elle soon forgave Sean.
Elle finally agreed that maybe it was best to return home and prepared to leave. She was stopped by Captain Reed, the soldier that had raped Peg and burned Sean's home. Reed had Elle brought into his office and he told her that he wasn't afraid of her brothers or father's reputation. He used his sword and cut the bodice of her dress. He also slapped her across the face and twisted her wrist till she was afraid that it might be broken. He left when he didn't get the information he wanted for her about the whereabouts of Sean. Captain Brawley, the soldier in charge of their township, was very upset when he saw how Elle had been treated and told her that Reed wanted him to allow her to escape so she could be followed and Sean would be discovered. Brawley allowed her to go to Sean and she was followed. Her brothers showed up just before Reed and his soldiers arrived to arrest Sean. The fought with swords and Sean was getting ready to kill Reed when Rex shot the sword from Sean's hand to prevent him from killing Reed. If Sean were to kill Reed, Sean would never receive a pardon. Sean was arrested and his brothers stayed with him to assure that Sean was not mistreated. Sean did not do well in jail after the time he had spent being previously locked up.
Brawley had sent a note to Reed's commanding officer telling him a little of the things that Reed had done. Sean's brother's had found a witness to the events for which Sean had been first arrested. Reed was a little concerned but he was confident the brothers were in fact lying and he would be fine. He was convinced that he and his men had killed everyone in the village where Sean had once lived.
Sean told Ty that he was in love with Eleanor. Ty was furious that they had sex while Eleanor was engaged to someone else and her and Sean were not married. Eleanor also told Ty that she was in love with Sean regardless of what he had done. Ty was convinced that marrying Peter would be for the best with Sean not yet being pardoned.
Eleanor went to visit Sean in jail and told him that she would always love him but she was marrying Peter in exchange for him using his and his father's connections to obtain a pardon for Sean.
Just after month went by with no news for Sean. Eleanor had not seen him again. Cliff came home and asked Eleanor how she planned on marry Peter and having his children if she could hardly stand his kissing her on her cheek. He then asked her if she thought she might be pregnant and when Elle thought about, she might indeed be pregnant. Cliff had come home to tell Elle that their father had obtained Sean's pardon.
Sean was finally free and he went home to Askeaton with Devlin. Devlin asked Sean why he wasn't going to see Elle. Sean told him that Elle had made a pact with Peter to marry him in exchange for helping to acquire Sean's pardon. Devlin told Sean that he should break the pact.
Sean went to see Peter and they talked. Peter admitted that he knew that Elle knew loved Sean. He didn't agree to free Elle from the pact because he was so in love with her. Peter told Sean that he could provide better for Elle because he was wealthier. Sean asked if Peter would feel the same if Elle was carrying his child. Peter told Sean that he would raise the child as his own. It was the hardest thing that Sean had ever done but he agreed that Peter was better prepared to support Elle and he walked away. Sean went back to Askeaton and packed to leave once again, headed to America.
Eleanor was very confused when she woke the next morning. Peter came to her and told her they needed to talk. Peter told Elle that Sean had come to see him the previous evening. Peter was crying but he told Elle that he was breaking off the engagement and gave her permission to go to Sean. He loved her too much to force her into a marriage when she didn't love him. Elle arrived at Askeaton as Sean was leaving. He asked Elle what she was doing there and Elle told him that Peter had released her from their engagement. They were married that very weekend.
Sean took Elle to see where he had lived during the four years he was gone. Sean had purchased the home of the Lord that the villagers had murdered due to his selfishness and mistreatment of the villagers. They drove through the village looking at the houses and businesses. They went to visit the grave of Peg. They ran into Flynn, the person his brothers had found as a witness to the events surrounding Sean's arrest. Other witnesses had come forward and told of what had happened and Reed had been court martialed and dishonorably discharged for his treatment of Peg and her son. Flynn suggested they take a look at the gated entrance to the cemetery. They noticed a young boy walking toward them. It was Michael. Michael and run to a neighbor's house who took him in when the soldiers came and burned down the house and they had found out that Sean was arrested. The neighbors had gone away to stay with relatives while they waited for things to calm down in the village where they lived. They had taken Michael with them and had just recently returned. When they found out that Sean was pardoned and would be returning, they suggested he go visit Sean and see if he would take him back in. The family didn't really have the means to keep Michael.
Michael was only eight and hadn't seen Sean in over two years. Sean was concerned that Michael wouldn't remember him. Sean was overjoyed to see Michael again and Michael told Sean that he remembered him. He noticed Elle and asked her if she was going to live with them. Elle told him that she would like that. Michael told Elle that he wouldn't mind.
They all went to their new estate that had been renamed Sinclair Hall after Peter Sinclair and his father for helping Sean obtain a pardon for the killing of the soldiers in the uprising against the previous landowner.

The Stolen Bride...

I would like to say that I loved the author's attempt to develop a less Alpha type of man as the main character, but I think I prefer the old Alpha to this.
I didn't fall in love with Sean: it was like with Devlin in a way. Yet they are different, but brothers at the same time.
I remember that the character seemed to me more honorable in The Prize. He was respectful and gallant and sweet and gentle. However, he shows himself in The Stolen Bride nearly as stubborn as Devin. He seemed weak in a bad way here and there: He is not clear at all with Elle and he continues constantly to push her in another man's arms while they share an "intense relationship".
I didn't hate anything of the novel, but it was not as fantastic as I imagined it would be (as it follows the Masquarade_).
What I found very pleasant was the mention of the other brothers and the all de Warenne Family. We know that love is strong on the Virginia-Devlin side and on the Tyrell-Lizzie side. I liked to be reminded of their stories.
NOW,
I have to talk about Peter Sinclair, who seemed to me a great character: Sometimes I wondered why Elle did not choose him instead of Sean because he was all ears, all gallantry _completely charming and perfect gentleman. What a shame to treat him like this!
He deserves better as well as Elle I thought. I was very relieved and pleased to learn that he became an adventurer and sailed to America. A beautiful ending-picture , he deserves it.
Nevertheless, somehow I understand the great love that was Sean and Elle's because he was and remained her protector of all times and she was in love with him her entire life. At least she was honest with herself not like another person...( Sean...)
I really liked the idea of a love that is hidden and which grows with time.
I recall that in The Mascarade the beginning was a brief allusion of the past when Ty and Lizzie were younger and love had already surged in their respective hearts... How beautiful and the end too when Ty talks about his feelings...

Well, this novel is different and I shall not read it again, probably (or the contrary, if I read again all the de Warenne Dynasty series)
It didn't anger me, my heart leapt only for Peter...
_Betrothed to a man of honor, her heart belongs to a traitor...
It's the truth!!! (You will see what I mean if you read the book)
He anyway left her for at least two inexcusable years and continues to push her away!
But I love de the Warenne Dynasty I will read it probably again one day and I must admit that it changed my ideas and allowed me to get to another world.
Simple and nice reading anyway.
Cannot give as much as The Prize, but still, here it is: ** and a half of a star may I add. :):)

✿ LECTURA DE BIBLIOTECA ✿

"Though we don't share the same blood
You're my brother and I love you that's the truth"
— Brother, Kodaline

Me pude ver reflejada.

I’m giving this book 3 stars up from 2.5. I did not enjoy this book. The heroine was obnoxious and so was the hero. Elle constantly pursues Sean and he constantly rebuffs her. This plot continues again and again and again.

Sean leaves step-sister, Elle, broken hearted when he leaves to see the world. (She loves him, and not in a sister/brother way.) My question is, if he’s leaving to see the world, how does he end up in a small Irish village? Doesn’t “seeing the world” mean seeing other countries?

We have flashbacks of the two’s relationship growing up. He’s 6 or 7 yrs older and she was two when he joined the family. It seems odd that this type of relationship would end up sexual. Speaking of sex, Sean sneaks into Elle’s bedroom just prior to her wedding to someone else and takes her against the wall - she’s a virgin. Ugh!

The story was tense with very little humour. And I hated how Peter was treated. He was my favourite character - kind, loving, gentlemanly, caring for the true Elle - and he gets treated like crap. I felt like crying through the whole book.

Speaking again of the true Elle, she’s supposed to be better at most things than her brothers - shooting, running, riding, mathematics, etc. but only the riding is actually shown in the story. I would have been nice to see some of this intelligence in her actions. There was none.

I did like the epilogue only why you would want to settle where a tragedy happened is beyond me.

The story I liked the least among the DeWarrene books. If it weren't for the writing and the urge to find the plot-twists or the next event, I'd say I would've skimmed it too. I'd say that based on my expectations, considering the first 5 books, which were amazing, this felt really lacking.

That was a bit of a disappointment because I loved Sean's role in The Prize as he was the caring and supportive gentleman, brother and brother-in-law of Devlin and Virginia.

Sean was convicted and was to be apprehended for crimes he was falsely accused of. Elle, who grew up fond of him, was now on the verge of being married to a gentleman... until Sean arrives back after having left the family for four years and kidnaps Elle, who willingly goes with him on the eve of her wedding to Peter.

The thing about this book and why it didn't live up to my expectations in comparison to the first 5 was the plot and how (1) it dragged on a bit between Elle and Sean. What really bothered me was that (2) hearts were broken as Peter, Elle's now-former intended, was genuinely humiliated and jilted, and he wasn't even close to being an adversary to Sean or anyone. The moment Sean was excused and he was able to court and marry Elle, everything happened way too fast for a story that dragged on. Peter just backed away (3) without any plot twist or defense.
It just didn't make sense.
