Allende, who writes in the "magic realism" tradition, is considered one of the first successful women novelists in Latin America. She has written novels based in part on her own experiences, often focusing on the experiences of women, weaving myth and realism together. She has lectured and done extensive book tours and has taught literature at several US colleges. She currently resides in California with her husband. Allende adopted U.S. citizenship in 2003.

This was a really good book of interviews. Sometimes it could be repetitive but that was because different journalists tended to ask some of the same questions. If you are doing background research on the author, wants tips on how to write, or just want some information about the circumstances in which the books were written, this is an excellent place to start.

When I first read this, I remember being surprised at how funny Allende can be. Illuminating.
