An amazing read.

And a shocking revelation to those unaware of the situation that clouds over the petroleum industry. This is a story of how an Oil & Gas corporation's greed for money lead to one of the worst environmental disaster in human history - the Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster in 2010. The book covers BP's creation, its corporate culture, the big Texas city refinery explosion in 2005, a big spill in Alaska, and of course the Deepwater Horizon explosion in April 2010.

It got good reviews, but I found the book kind of slow and bloated. I think I wold have liked it as a ProPublica series of investigative reports. As a book, it seemed repetitive, like he kept writing the same things over and over in order to get to a certain number of pages. I understand and agree with the premise

Just unbelievable. While our government chastised BP, Transocean, and Halliburton for pointing the blame at each other, our government failed to fully acknowledge just how complicit they were in the events leading to the blowout of the Macondo well. Knowing that BP continues to have more OSHA violations than all other major oil producers put together, and that their has been no overall change in the culture of the company in terms of safety EVER, I know I won't be suckered in by the pretty green ...more
