Prima lettura: Gennaio 2014
Seconda lettura: Giugno/Luglio 2015

Leviathan: 4.5/5
Behemoth: 4
Goliath: 4.5

In Scott Westerfeld's best work, the Leviathan Trilogy featuring Leviathan, Behemoth, and Goliath,we meet some great characters and go on an exciting adventure through alterna-history's WWI with both an Allied and an Axis perspective. The trilogy has elements of both steampunk and fantasy as well as threading in truths and actual people from history (Westerfeld includes an afterward correcting some of his alterna-history). It was a lively exciting read that I highly recommend to any reader. I gi ...more

Per tutti i ragni... che storia!

Recommends it for: chi immagina un’evoluzione diversa della storia.

This is a review of The Leviathan.

I think that this book would be good for anyone that enjoys a very suspenseful book. In this book There are two charecters that you see the view points of. It is set in another representation of the world tht would be set around the time between WWI and WWII. The two charecters are Prince Alek and Deryn Sharp. Alek is the son of the Monarch of Austria who is running from his granduncle the ruler of Germany that has mmurdered his family and started a world war.

I wanted to do a review of the overall series because the books just flow so well together so I don't want to review them individually. This book was just so great it many ways for me and it has certain characteristics that make it even better and set it far apart from a normal world war historical fiction or classic thriller-romance or generic YA post-apocalyptic series.
The Setting:
The setting of the series interests me a lot because although it does take place in World War I, it takes on th

The Leviathan Trilogy is a steampunk/alternate history adventure by Scott Westerfeld. The three books in it are Leviathan, Behemoth, and Goliath. They are about a boy named Aleksander (Alek), and a girl named Deryn. Alek is an Austrian prince, and he has to run away from the palace when both his parents are killed for unknown reasons. Since Alek’s mother is a commoner, he is not, in fact, the heir to the throne. Deryn Sharp is a Scottish girl who pretends to be a boy in order to join the British ...more

Never in my wildest imagination would I believe that two simple characters, who are nothing but a blip in the war, would shift the tension of the battlefield. The novel Goliath, the conclusion to the Leviathan Trilogy, by Scott Westerfeld is a historical fiction which explores what could and might have happened in the vigorous battlefield of the First Great War. Alek, the prince, and Deryn, a simple commoner in an airship, w

This is one of those trilogies that I wish I'd gotten to so much sooner.

The Leviathan trilogy takes place in a steampunk alternate history of World War 1, and much of what happens is inspired by the real-life events and the political upheaval as it unfolded during The Great War. It's not exactly the way it unfolded in our world, plenty of events play out differently, and that's in large part due to our main characters and the advanced steampunk technologies. Really, it's more like the war of th

SPOILER ALERT The Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld was a great book set in the time period of World War I. Alek's Austrian parents were murdered by Germans (who made it look like Serbia had done it) to start World War I. He goes to a hide out in a machine with four of his former tutors. Deryn, a girl dressed as a boy who wants to join the air force is saved by an enormous airship called the Leviathan when she is caught out in a storm on a "Darwinist" creation. She stays on the ship until it crash l ...more

Loved it!
The Leviathan Trilogy is set in an alternate Earth scenario where Darwin has discovered the missing DNA link which allows us to meld and minipulate biological beings into useful tools like weapons and airships such as The Leviathan ofcourse there are detractors who would rather rely on machines and it is very believablke as the two theologies and there ‘machines’ are well devided by countries and National doctrines – much like religion did for many hundreds of years, (and in some place

These books can really only be review properly as a whole series. Not because the individual stories only lead up to the third one, but because each part are good on their own and build up to a really great payoff. It uses a dual-first person perspective of writing, bouncing back between the two main characters, Deryn Sharp, and Aleksander. Alek is a sheltered prince from Austria and Deryn is poor girl from England, and because of this unusual partnership, it keeps you wanting to turn the page. ...more

Do the following ideas appeal to you: alternate World War I history; steampunk complete with German machinists (Clankers) v. British biologically engineered war animals (Darwinists), a girl disguised as a boy (to join the Royal Air Force, of course!), an Austrian Prince in exile, and travels to Austria, Switzerland, Istanbul, and Siberia? If so, The Leviathan Trilogy is the series for you!

Nicely illustrated with pictures of the various machines and animals, not to mention devious inventors, and

“The Leviathan” is a very well written story of a Prince named Aleksander and a girl named Deryn who is posing as a boy to get into the air force. It is set in a steam punk Victorian era all around Europe. A war has broken out between those who use mechanical engineering known as clankers and those who use genetically mutated animals known as beasties. Alek and Deryn eventually meet each other due to the circumstances.
My favorite part of “The leviathan” is when Alek is tricked into a stormwalke

So I had to read a YA series for my Master's class and I choose Leviathan, Behemoth and Goliath because it was related to World War I.
This is a sorta historical, sorta fantasy, sorta steampunk story about a girl named Deryn that dresses up as a boy to help the British side of World War I. She/ he meets Aleksander who is related to the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. So like the real World War I there are the two sides of the European conflict except in their version there are the Darwinists, who use s

These books are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!
Before I found the LEVIATHAN trilogy, I had completely given up on young adult books. I hate the lame mainstream books, like the Hunger Games and John Green's books crap (though I kinda liked Harry Potter).
