This book was such an interesting and lovely read. I especially enjoyed reading the letters father and daughter wrote to one another over so many years. The love, care, and concern were so evident and heartfelt. From a letter to Mathilde from her father...."If everything is working out according to your last letter, then tell him, whom you will give your love to, that I shall welcome him as son-in-law. Even though we are not acquainted, my daughter's decision shall be enough guarantee. " P. 64
