It's all about the shoes!

A poor shoemaker and his cat lived together. Business was bad. "Don't give up so easily," advised the cat. "Make me some beautiful boots, and I will do the rest!" This clever cat can deal with anything, even a shoe-loving monster.

Ayano Imai's delightful twist on the classic Puss in Boots story, sees the loyal cat taking on a terrible monster-and wi

Trickster: This cat has justification for what it does; I may like him better than in the original story. The master in the story is better too.

beautiful illustrations and a clever spin on the story of a clever cat. I always thought the classic was appealing to future con artists and questioned it's validity to childhood lessons...but making the antagonist non-human felt more like teaching street smarts. I liked reading it to my 3 year old. know there are tons of stories that just have no point and are just for the little one to "practice" reading...I can't stand reading those
I really enjoyed this delightful take on the classic Puss in Boots story. When a shoemaker is nearly broke because he has little business, his cat volunteers to help drum up some business. He does so, but when the customer tries to trick the cat, he gets what's coming to him. The delicately, softly-hued illustrations fit the story perfectly. The last few pages are a little bit gruesome, but they are appropriate to the story. This is a great addition to a collection on traditional tales.

A clever cat finds a way to get his impoverished shoemaker employer jobs, but when their customer refuses to pay, the cat must find a way to outwit him.

Not quite the traditional Puss in Boots tale, but a fun reimagining of it. I really like Imai's illustration style, and Westerlund's version of the tale might be better than the original.
One of my most favorite fairy tales! This book is a variation on the traditional story of Puss in Boots. Nevertheless, an excellent version in it's own right and the artwork is beautiful! Read and enjoy...

This is a cute version of the traditional tale; I just didn't like the illustrations so much.
I haven't read this story in a long time. Loved the illustrations, they put a new spin on a very old tale.
A lovely version of this fairy tale and the illustrations are simply gorgeous.

Puss is still as tricksy, just less false. At least in this version the ogre has it coming.

Cutest little kitty with rouge. Eek. And lovely kitty expressions. Artwork is wonderful, story very simple.
I love this from the endpapers to the beautiful illustrations. Interesting take on the story.

I have no idea how the original story goes (how sad is that?), but I enjoyed this version. Loveliest of illustrations.
