The story and the fmc had lots of potential, and I liked some of the secondary characters like her friends, but the execution of the book was not great. The introduction of the fmc and her friends was great, and then the book went downhill form there. The relationship developed too quickly and it made no sense.
Spoilers: They were hooking up right away, which was too fast for that time period and the fmc's inexperience. I also disliked the mmc and his gaslighting of the fmc whenever she was suspicious of him. She was right that he was hiding something and he kept making her think she was crazy for thinking that. She forgave him too easily.
A plain woman who considers herself a spinster at the ripe age of 25 and a mysterious, dark man who just happens to be recently employed by her father are thrown together in a quest to know the truth. There are others, some blatant and some secretive, who wish harm to come knocking on their doors. A fun read that keeps the reader guessing until late in the book.
