A good, thought provoking book aimed at using play to draw us closer to God. The Kindle version I read had an odd formatting problem that occasionally blacked out pages: however, the book was worth reading enough to persevere despite that annoyance.
I read this for a class on joy and celebration in pastoral care and really enjoyed it. It was a lovely reminder that what we focus on is what we reap in life and when we focus on joy and a playful way, that is what we reap. Hamman makes a great case then even when dealing with the hard stuff, if we can be flexible and creative, we'll get through it better. Though it might have been condensed slightly - only slightly - this book and its author helped me slow down the first part of my 2016. I first heard Hamman at a lecture as he encouraged his listeners to "Cultivate boredom. For in boredom we are seeking something to save us from ourselves." Living life more slowly, creating margin in my schedule, letting myself be bored for periods of time, allow for both play-fullness and also for me to truly hear God.
