It's late at night, and the cheerful chatter of Moth, Frog, Cricket, and Mockingbird keeps a restless child awake. But the friendly wind and a cooperative cloud intervene to quiet all nighttime melodies and deliver a gentle "Good night."
This cumulative story is realistic and captivating! A bit tricky to read aloud, children will giggle with you when you misspeak. David Jorgensen's illustrations are thoroughly interesting and entertaining!Scientifically accurate creatures, plants and the moon are given voices, facial expressions and whimsical clothes. Solid 4 stars!
Gentle cadence and pastel illustrations combine to lull a restless child to sleep. Many creatures need to work together to quiet the night, and they all need help. For example, "But Frog was deep in the swing, lost in the beat, with a night full of rhythm in his hands and feet. 'No,' said Frog, 'I can't stop strumming until Moth stops dancing.'"
I am always surprised how well children respond to this book. It is not that colorful, but there seems to be something about the additive and repetitive nature of the story that grabs them. I had babies to young elementary at story time and the 3 year olds to young elementary all moved closer for the story.
