An inspiring cookbook full of great ideas. You could follow the recipes, or use them as a jumping off point. The main thing is mastering the dehydration/rehydration of different foods. I can't wait to experiment next spring before camping season starts.

20140807 ◊ I would heartily recommend this backcountry cookbook to anyone interested in preparing vegan and vegetarian meals for the trail. While I can only speak to the Dinner recipes, I will say that every single meal that I prepared was a huge win! I very much appreciated the author's introduction as well, with its tips on food storage, menu planning, and especially information on dehydrating and rehydrating the meals.

I'd like to make a few suggestions for anyone planning to take meals from

Another Fork in the Trail: Vegetarian and Vegan Recipes for the Backcountry by Laurie March provides an excellent resource for people who enjoy cooking in the wilderness. [return][return]The first section of the book explores issues and ideas specific to the needs of vegetarian and vegan eaters, however even an omnivore like myself found the information useful. It's tough packing meat into the back country, so it's wonderful to learn about the variety of options available.[return][return]The rec ...more

This cookbook is filled with nourishing recipes that can be easily taken on backpacking, hiking and camping trips. Be aware that many of the recipes call for the use of a dehydrator, so if you don't have a commercial dehydrator it will limit the number of recipes you can try. However, even without a dehydrator many of these meals look delicious enough to try off the trails as well!
