Recommends it for: anyone with an interest in Congress or politics
This book follows the path of four well known women politicians and charts what their first few years in Congress were like.
Of course, two of the four are no longer active: Pat Schroeder of Colorado and Cynthia McKinney of Georgia. But that's not surprising, because public life is not easy.
The two who are still here include Rep. Louise McIntosh Slaughter, who is the first woman to chair the House Rules Committee, and Patty Murray, who left the House and now is a senator.

Bingham was born in 1963 into a newspaper family in Louisville, Kentucky. She moved to New York City in 1968. She graduated from Harvard University in 1985 with a degree in History and Literature. At Harvard, she served as co-news editor of the Harvard Independent.
