As a female beekeeper in a male-dominated field, I feel a little out of place. The clothing doesn't fit (sometimes with hilarious results), and I feel distinctly out of place whenever I go to events where mostly there are older men. I was very interested in learning about the history of female beekeepers and of understanding how that history has shaped the world. This challenging situation highlights many issues about the role the bees play, including sustainability, nutrition, economic disparities, and environmental policies.
