This is the 6th novel I've read from author Elias Khoury and I still enjoy reading his novels. This novel is different from all other novels I've read, but this one is confusing.
This novel has 3 leading characters and starts with their deaths to start telling their lives stories and the triangle relationship between the 2 men and the woman. Then, in each new chapter, the author writes a new and different version of this triangluar relationship from the different perspectives of each of the leading characters, then he writes about their life's stories and their families stories. The author offers continously different version of the story, of stories, of families'secrets, of people's ideas on the story, stories, and families's lives'secrets. In the end, as a read, I got confused, lost and lost track of the story without being able to have a full picture of the whole story.
Maybe, Maybe, I suppose that for the author the purpose was not to write a story, stories, History, and secrets, but simply to show that regardless of the story, life and people are filled with stories, secrets, ideas, and illusions, which are lost with time, with History, with people immigrating to other countries, and with people dying.
I guess this is one of those novels, which readers will have different points of view, just like the author wrote the story from different angles.
