This is a collection of short stories by science fiction and fantasy writers that have become legends in our time, written at a time in their careers when their stars were just being launched. As such, the stories themselves may seem a little outdated in some respects, but they still hold up very well. While all of the stories are extremely well done, there are a couple that, in my opinion, stand out. They are "Child" by Joan C. Holly, and "The Eddystone Light" by Laurence Yep.

None of the stories in this collection about strange children are as disturbing as the cover image, though some came close. I had to put something on top of the book every time I lay it down, just so I wouldn’t have to see the cover. I suspect the cover is related to Joan C. Holly’s Child which, despite being odd, is probably the least odd of the stories.

Many of the stories reflect a child-like view of the world, and they are among the most disturbing. A Proper Santa Claus, Marks of Painted Teet

Roger Elwood was an American science fiction writer and editor, perhaps best known for having edited a large number of anthologies and collections for a variety of publishers in the early 1970s. Elwood was also the founding editor of Laser Books and, in more recent years, worked in the evangelical Christian market.
