The companion book to the The Mary Whitehouse Experience TV series contains references to some of the sketches featured on the show and much new additional material.The Mary Whitehouse Experience was a British topical sketch comedy show produced by the BBC created by Bill Date. It starred two comedy double David Baddiel and Rob Newman, and Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis. All four comedians had graduated from Cambridge University. It was broadcast on both radio and television in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Robert ("Rob") Newman (born 7 July 1964) is a British stand-up comedian, author and political activist. In 1993 Newman and his then comedy partner David Baddiel became the first comedians to play and sell out the 12,000-seat Wembley Arena in London. He was born to a Greek Cypriot father and British mother.

Newman's first speaking appearance was with Third World First (now known as People and Planet), the student political organisation. In addition to comedy and writing, he has also worked as a paperboy in Whitwell, Hertfordshire, farmhand, warehouse-man, house-painter, teacher, mail sorter, social worker, mover, and broadcaster.

The Mary Whitehouse Experience was a British sketch show that was first aired on radio in the late '80's before moving to television in 1990, running to 1992. It was named after Mary Whitehouse. The book is a spinoff taking material from the show with some additions.

As suggested by the title the book is written as an Encyclopedia covering topics ranging from "Aaagh!" to "Zoo". In between there is such varied topics as "Anne Haddy", "Lute", "Middle Name" and "The Thunderbirds".

The book is quite humorous although can also be quite crude.
