As with the (much shorter) prequel, I enjoyed the premise, the characters, and the story that introduces the Balancers in a more in-depth manner than the prequel.

Having said that, I do share the opinion with another reviewer that I would have liked the book better if it had been told from James' point of view outright rather than simply put forth in the form of a journal.

Also, like with the prequel, I found the malapropisms (and two misspe

In Legacy - Book One of the Balancer Chronicles, Katrina Blake has just inherited her grandmother's estate. When she discovers a journal written by an ancestor, her life will be changed forever (and the forever part is literal).

I must say that this was one of the most original stories I have read in a long time and I'm not sure how to categorize it - paranormal romance?, urban fantasy?, a bit of both? The concept of the balancers, immortal beings whose purpose is to keep other supernatural entit

"Legacy--Book One of the Balancer Chronicles" is an fascinating book. I have not been a fan of supernatural novels dealing with vampires and witches but Chris Adonn has turned me onto his Balancer novels. I look forward to the follow up volumes in this series. The characters are well developed and one becomes emotionally involved with and grow to love each of the characters. I was surprised at how involved I became in the book and found it extremely difficult to put down once I started reading i ...more

Legacy- Book One of the Balancer by chris adonn
This is mostly told in a book about James life through the decades to Kat his future relative. James tells her a lot about different spieces of the supernatural world that he comes into contact with.
The only real problem I had with the book it was too long for me I was ready for this book to be done with a lot sooner. Plus I ended up crying in a few places!
James explains his normal life than to go on as he discovers that he is a Balancer and

Legacy: Book One of the Balancer Chronicles was an engaging story, cataloguing the life of James William Youngman in a journal to one of his heirs. Katrina, as the remaining heir to the Black Rose Estate she is requested to return to the house and read a missive left to her, yet she has no will to remain at the home. That is until she begins reading the account of her great ancestor and his supernatural abilities.

This story captured my interest right from the beginning. I enjoyed the first insta

This book is a great rainy day read, very enjoyable. The plot is interesting and leaves the reader wanting more; the characters are mysterious, yet very honest. The writing style of the author is good, nothing undesirable there. The reader will enjoy the subtlety of the author in explaining delicate scenarios and their resultant affect on the characters' feelings. The connection between the past and the present is strong in this novel, the reader will enjoy two stories: that of the main characte ...more

Read and Reviewed by my 18 year old daughter (Sarah Bower)

Legacy by Chris Adonn was a fantastic start to my summer reading. It is the retelling of James Blackburn’s life through an almost interactive diary that his very great grand-daughter is reading. Over 400 years worth of experiences as being a balancer made for a very good story. The grand-daughter who’s eyes you are reading through is Katrina. She has returned to her grandmother’s estate following her death as a favor to the executer of he

I would like to start this review by saying that reading a book about someone reading a book can be rather boring. Now that being said, it works in this book. Now there are some parts that are hard to follow. Talking about Energy, Proteons, Angels, Lions, Apes, etc. I’m not sure that readers require that much background to understand the story, but I do hope that readers do not lose interest during these parts because the story is good. Just to be clear, this does turn into a love story. A good ...more

A cracking good read. Loved the light hearted way in which the character of James using the written word and telepathy relays his own history whilst explaining the concept of ‘Balancers’ (protectors of mankind) to Katrina his great great….Grandaughter and newly emerged Balancer . The depth of explanations could have, in lesser hands, been tedious but Chris Adonn made it extremely interesting and writes with natural humour and compassion. This book made me laugh and cry I was so caught up with th ...more

I liked the characters and plot. The Balancers are a very interesting idea, magical immortal humans set to protect other humans and the balance between the supernatural and natural.

I found myself really liking most of the characters. The way the two main characters interacted was interesting and something I hadn't run across before. Unfortunately there was quite a cliff hanger at the end of the book, I guess I'll have to buy the next book when it comes out.

This is a very good book and I recommen

Loved, loved, loved this book! The story is amazing the characters are real and for me it was a whole new adventure in the fantasy domain. Katrina Blake goes through so much in this novel to learn the truth about herself and what she is. It was simply amazing from beginning to end and I would definitely recommend it to those that enjoy a good fantasy read.

After a 5 year "forced" absence from her home, Kat Blake returns to her childhood home after the death of her grandmother to find that she has inherited everything. Everything includes the fascinating diary of one of her ancestors, James. James' tale brings light to Kat about her grandmother's cold and demanding behavior and why Kat was forced to leave the grounds. Excellent start to a new series and a great way to spend an afternoon in the sun.

Received this as part of LibraryThing member give-away:

If you are not into the supernatural, the fantastic, tales of myth of legend, of imagination, then this is probably not the story for you. However if you delight in tales of vampires, witches, unicorns, and dragons (oh my!) then you will be pleasantly surprised. Chis Adonn takes you though a tale told though a journal of the story of James, a balancer (think Highlander but a bit better, balancers, by definition have to "balance" and are not

When Katrina Blake is summoned to her family estate after her grandmother’s sudden death, she has no idea what is in store for her. The truth of her family’s past, her true nature, and what her future may hold lies within the pages of a mysterious journal locked away in her grandmother’s private study. Kat is surprised to find that her very great-grandfather is actually interacting with her through his journal. But that is not the most incredible thing she will learn…

I won this book from the Member Giveaways on Library Thing.

When I entered to win this book, I really wasn't sure I would like it, but I decided I needed to read titles outside my normal genre. Wow, I sure wasn't expecting to love this book as much as I did! I also won a copy of The Eyes That See by Chis Adonn in the Member Giveaway at Library Thing, and read that novella first. While reading the novella is not necessary, it did give me a better understanding of the basic premise of this series.

After reading The Eyes That See, a prequel to this novel, I was expecting a great book. The ideas for this story are very unique and exciting. I was hoping for a lot of action where Balancers were running off to battle vampires and werewolves and new creatures. This story didn't quite fulfill my expectations.

The story is told through Katrina reading a book written by her ancestor James. He tells her about the Balancers and what their place is in the world. Then he goes on to tell her about his l

I have to tell you, I really enjoyed this book, it's different than I expected, but I loved it.

Kat and her grandmother parted on bitter terms, but now her grandmother has died and Kat has promised to return to her grandmother's house one more time. Sounds a bit gothic but it isn't. mysterious yes, and very interesting. She is drawn to use the right key, enter the house and read her grandmother's last letter to her.

After reading the letter, and using the key that fell out of the letter, she find

As the author of this book, my opinion should not be too highly regarded. It is most certainly partial, but I so wish to share it.

Legacy took me on an unimaginable adventure. The characters were real and totally autonomous from the get go. I found myself writing into all hours of the morning just to see where they would take me to next. I knew the rough outcome of course, but even I did not see the full picture until the very end. I was blown away by James’s story and the humorous and articulat

Intriguing supernatural setting

I loved the characters in this novel. One of the most difficult things to do is to create distinct characters but this author nailed it. I also enjoyed the unique supernatural setting with the balancers and learning about their role in the world. I can't really describe what genre this novel could be classified as, kinda urban fantasy with science fiction, fantasy and romance elements too. The only downside were the frequent spelling and grammatical errors but I wa
Excellent story! I found myself totally engrossed with James' journal entries, feeling like I myself had found the journal. It was so real, and so very, very inviting. As James tells his life as a Balancer, he comes alive. Extremely well written, Chris Adonn has developed a fantastic beginning to the "Balancer Chronicles". I can't wait to read the next in the series!

This is more of an intro than a bio.

Reader, writer, lover of words. When I was a child I used to pick random pages in the dictionary and scan through them rememorising interesting words. That was a personal enjoyment that I still indulge in on occasion.

I love to write. I love to lose myself in compelling narratives and adventures as they unfold in my mind and spill onto pages which will invariabl
