In 1996 when I got this book, the internet was not as ubiquitous as it now is, and so the niche that is now filled by Wikipedia was then filled by reference books such as this one. Very detailed and (at the time) very up-to-date, the Encyclopedia of Rock Stars had entries for every rock band and artist of which I was then aware, and many more. This is a book for people who are both information junkies and amateur pop-culture historians. If it is important to you to know when various lineup changes occurred and which songs and albums hit which chart positions (in the UK and US), than this is a book for you. A highlight is the entry for Spinal Tap, which goes all the way back to the band's beginnings in the 1960s...
