Barbaro was a Kentucky Derby winner that caught the hearts of thousands, and his story is beautifully told in Greatness and Goodness: Barbaro and His Legacy. Alex Brown had the privilege of being a part of both Barbaro’s story and his legacy. He gives firsthand accounts of stories about Barbaro from his birth to his untimely death. Alex Brown's book on Barbaro is a beautiful, inspirational book on a great racehorse whose life was cut too short, and on his legacy, which has helped to save many other horses.

The book has wonderful pictures, containing over 150 color photos. The author interviewed over 100 people involved in racing for this book. He is uniquely qualified to tell Barbaro's story. the pictures are beautiful and the first half of the book were good. going through his life and how the last 8 months went for him. I ended up skimming the second half where the book changed to a stage for OTTB retirement and anti slaughter legislation.

Alex Brown managed timwoolleyracing.com, which served as a hub of activity for Fans of Barbaro. Alex embarked on his own journey in 2007, to do additional research for this book. More than two years later, this journey led Alex to work at seven racetracks for seven different trainers. During this time Alex also covered the Triple Crown series for the New York Times.
