How did this get published?

The book starts off so saccharine and unrealistically chirpy that I expected there to be little hearts in the margins. The portrayal of the two main gay adults ( who are a couple ) is almost offensively cutesy. Frankly, I'm surprised there weren't any birds chirping on Andy's window sill every morning when he woke up.

Then "something awful" happens. The reaction to this is so completely unbelievable as to have left me in a state of WTF for about a half hour. The melodra

I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end, but I do digress this book is not for everyone's tastes, specifically those as the warning declares which is 'not for the faint of heart', but has issues with reading about sexually violent situations, violence in general. This book had it to the max.

I will though give credit where credit is due and that the explicit grueling scenes of rape were not mapped out in detail in this book which I was thankful for even though I'm not squeamish or overl

A crude mix of saccharine fluff and violence, extremely unbelievable, annoyingly simple writing style. Period.

Oh wow. What to say...

Well, I was tempted to give it one star, but I suppose it had some qualities that would bump it to two, so two it is.

The plot is... I suppose it's supposed to be a tragic survival story, but it ends up being an abuse fairytale.

The writing doesn't flow, the editing is a bit sloppy, I constantly struggled with trying to see what was happening, I felt very little for the main character, I thought the writing robbed a potentially good storyline and...yeah. It just wasn't good

This started out a bit slow for me. Andy is sweet and just getting his life back on track. He hasn't had the best childhood, but things seem to be looking up for him. I didn't quite get the attraction Jake and Bill had to Andy. It just seemed odd to me that they would want to hang out with a 19 year old, but they meant well.

As for the rape/kidnapping storyline, well, I can only hope that was pretty unrealistic, though I suppose horrible stuff like that happens all the time. Thankfully, much of

This book was a work of fiction but it was also a wake up call to all young men both gay and straight. There are gangs of sexual predators out there that will abuse your body and your mind. I was almost put off this book because of the warning about violence and rape but figured what the hell. The rape scenes were well done and not graphic but the reader knew what was happening. Yes there were some places in the story that were sappy but they were necessary to balance the violence done to Andy ...more

I don't give a damn what the other reviews say, this book was written by a brilliant talent. Yes, there were some flaws but seriously wasn't the dude who wrote this like 17!?!? That to me is amazing in itself. Louis, you pissed me off with this book, poor, poor Andrew! But I adore you for giving him Jake, Bill, and Brian. A family for him was so sweet. I have never had to stop in the middle of a book before but YOU Louis YOU made me do that three times throughout this book when I just needed a m ...more

Damn Louis for you first book you did it right!!!.

My heart was on a emotional roller coaster for poor Andrew. Andrew moved to a new town and was slightly social awkward yet still tried to make friends. This story shows how sometimes we assume people are inherently good when there is actually evil in their intent. They crap that Andrew had to endure was of course an emotional and physical one. Even through the lowest of the lows you have to love yourself and trust in yourself in order to find the

This is a really good book, but not for the faint of heart. The story is riveting and you won't be able to step away once you start it. Not your typical romantic love story, it makes you wonder if everyone is really meant to have a "happily ever after." If you enjoy reading male/male stories then by all means give this book a try.

A sweet and slightly saccharine read. Really felt for the MC- the worst of luck. I really did get a good feel for him by the end though and that's a job well done for Louis. Thought his writing style was good and the language choices adventurous. The story could have done with slightly more development which is why it's 4 stars for me.

Whoa. Emotional rollercoaster indeed. I was fully engrossed in the story so the author did a good job.

This book contains an atypical HEA and is not a romance title. It is drama/horror and contains references to rape, abduction, abuse, and graphic violence. Not for the faint at heart

There were some nice parts in this story but for the most part, it was so over the top and unrealistic. I have a hard time believing a young man who was raped brutally by several men, would end up falling in love with one of the men who raped him.

Louis is a gay romance author born and raised in South Africa. He was a shy outcast who had few friends in school; generally feeling excluded and on the fringe of society. However, when he discovered gay romance and erotica in 2007, at the age of seventeen, his mind and world opened up.

He wrote his first story, A Better Life, longhand in a 197 page spiral notebook, on his bed every night with a pi
