I’m an author, but I could never have started writing books if I hadn’t loved reading them first. Reading isn’t just one of my favourite things to do; it’s one of the most important things in my life. I can’t imagine a world in which I couldn’t read, every day. That’s why I always read to my children every day, just as my parents used to read to me. Stories can be exciting, sad, funny, scary or comforting, but the most amazing thing about them is that they take us into new worlds and teach us something more about ourselves, all at the same time.

AMAZING! I loved the book. I read it all the way till the end, and I'm definitely going to try to read some of the other books. I also love that this book is about a border collie! I liked reading about Hannah more, but it was cool with Logan, too. Hannah's mom was kinda frustrating me though because she was like, "No." when Hannah asked for a dog. I also wish that it didn't go back and forth so much. I kinda wish it was in first person and it was Bear, talking about what he saw and what happened when he got lost and his story. This book is still great though, and I totally recommend.

Logan has a best friend and his name is Bear. They do everything together. The only problem now is Logan's parents are separating and his dad wants to take bear with him to the mountains. Logan pleads with his parents and Bear will go with him and his mother to the city. It's hard enough for Logan to have to deal with his parents splitting, he couldn't make it through without Bear. Meet Hannah. She wants a dog. She would bathe it, feed it, and walk it everyday. Her parents don't think she's ready for such responsibility. Instead, Hannah spends her time helping out at the Rainbow Street Shelter. It's not so bad. The animals really need her. On their way to the big city Logan and his mom stop for lunch. When they finish, Bear is no longer in the car. Panic stricken they search everywhere. Bear is lost. When Hannah's dad arrives home in his old pickup, he has a passenger. A happy black and white dog. This was unexpected and Hannah wants to keep him. Unfortunately the dog ends up at the Rainbow Street Shelter. Will Logan ever get Bear back? Will Hannah ever get a dog of her own? Orr has done a wonderful job of putting together a fun serendipity story for kids. Young readers who love animals will be eagerly turning the pages to see what happens with Bear, Logan and Hannah.

This is a great story of a boy, his dog and two kids that give back to their community by helping out in the local animal shelter. Logan's parents are divorcing and Logan and his mom are moving to the city. When they are in route, Bear gets lost and a move that Logan is not looking forward to gets worse. Hannah is a girl at his new school and she wants a dog more than anything in the world, but her parents will not let her have one. One day Hannah's Dad comes home from work with a cute Border Collie that jumped into the back of his truck. Logan meets Hannah at his first day of school and finds out where Bear is, The Rainbow Street Shelter. Logan is reunited with Bear and meets his first friend in the city. I like that the book raises awareness about animals at shelters and I think kids will enjoy this real life story.

This is a beginning chapter book from the Rainbow Street Shelter series. A special treat for all dog lovers or anyone hoping of getting a pet some day. Logan has to leave behind his old life when his parents decide to get a divorce. Then, on top of all his heartache, his dog and favorite companion Bear goes missing. The story is told from alternating perspectives, Logan's and Hannah's. The short chapters and embedded illustrations make this an appealing story for readers still developing stamina and confidence.

I enjoyed the alternating story from Logan to Hannah. The text/storyline repeats from Logan to Hannah as certain points in the story, as well: "What Bear liked, almost more than anything..." What Logan liked, almost more than anything..." will help readers build confidence. The storyline is wonderful- dog lovers will definitely enjoy this one. A sequel is about a cat named Buster.

I know my students will be able to relate to Logan who loses his dog when he and his mom are heading to their new home in the city as much as they will to Hannah, who desperately wants a dog, but whose parents keep saying "no."

In the meantime we meet a boy and girl who don't know each other, but will soon, thanks to Bear. Cute story that winds around to a happy ending. I liked the way this is told, but then I'm becoming a big fan of Wendy Orr books. Very cute. :)

Trying to keep my second grade level readers in mind, I found Lost! a bit boring...maybe a bit too predictable.

Logan's parents are divorcing and the dog goes with Logan...until Logan and his mom stop and Bear jumps out without the family noticing. Now to find Bear... Where? When? and How? Logan can hardly wait.

In the meantime, Hannah so desperately wants a dog, but mom and dad refuse. Low and behold, Dad pulls his truck in the driveway and out Bear jumps from the bed of the truck. Shocked, Dad had no intention of bringing the dog home, but Hannah falls in love. Ugh, oh. What's going to happen to poor Bear?

The author's writing is excellent. Everything flows naturally, which I appreciate because a lot of the realistic fiction books I have read lately are extremely hokey.

It was frustrating that the parents got divorced in the beginning, because it didn't sound like anyone cheated or was abusive. So it was just two people who were unwilling to make sacrifices for each other. Crappy examples for a kid. But unfortunately marriage in our society is looked at as something disposable instead of a treasure that takes a lot of work to maintain.

I really enjoyed the plot and the kids, although I thought Hannah was annoying in the beginning. I liked the twist in the resolution.

What did I think ? I love this book because Logan thinks that the family is getting torn apart like a thanksgiving turkey, Logan said that he wishes that Bear would of went with his dad. Logan wasn't trying to be rude he didn't mean what he said. Logan realized when Bear went missing, and Bear hopped into a different truck that Logan was sad cause he lost Bear. He was happy once he found Bear he realized that he shouldn't have said that.

I'm always on the hunt for good series for 2nd-4th graders, and this is adorable! This first in the series has a boy who has lost his dog and a girl who desperately wants a dog, and their paths meet in a sweet way. Set also in the Rainbow Pet Shelter, I loved this book and will definitely order the whole series.

I know this is an Australian author but what is the family doing leaving their dog in a car - even for a short time - even with the window rolled down. I'm sure some struggling readers will like this even with the predictability of the alternating chapters. OK, not alternating chapters, but alternating parts of the story. I haven't been to an animal shelter for quite a while, but the description made this sound much nicer than the last one I saw. I guess this series could probably compare with Jenny Dale's, which I really have not read. I guess I can see teachers using the pattern "What _____ liked best, almost more than anything else in the work, was_______________________________. The other thing He/she liked best, almost more than anything else in the word, was ____________________. But what he/she liked best of all, more than anything else in all the world, was ___________________." as a writing prompt.

I read this out loud with Madeline (9) and we both just loved it. The whole story is sweet, it lightly touches on some difficult life situations and emotions (which sparked some great conversations), and the end is happy and had me a little teary. A new series to love!
