“Mom, Dad’s sitting in a chair with his eyes closed, and he won’t open them, even if I yell at him!”

The sound of my nine-year-old son’s voice filled me with dread. My husband and son were camping at a state park to celebrate Thomas’ 10th birthday. I called the ambulance, but it was too late. My husband, Bob, was dead. In an instant my life changed forever.

My own mother at the age of 31 became a widow with 3 small children. What my mother went through in her painful experience affected me as well. Even though I was the child of her second marriage, I have a tender heart when it comes to young widows. When I was asked to review Alone and Alive I gladly accepted.

The author Janet Boyanton became a widow after her husband died suddenly during a camping trip with their young son. Janet is an attorney, and had the knowledge needed to make the necessary

Alone and Alive by Janet Boyanton is a practical and useful book on what a woman goes through when she loses her spouse. Many parts of it can pertain to men as well, but it is written for women.

“This book will not be about sadness. It is not the tear-jerking story of a grieving widow. It is the story of how to overcome the grief and recapture the joy of life. It is the story of how you live in your newfound state, how you move on, and most important, how you stay yourself, even when you feel li

Alone and Alive a practical guide for dealing with the death of your husband by Janet Boyanton is one of the most useful and down to earth self-help books that I have read in quite a while. Boyanton is a practicing probate attorney in Texas and writes about how her life was changed in an instance when her husband died suddenly.

In Alone and Alive, Boyanton addresses such issues as finances, children’s grief, probate, living arrangement, legal documents and even dating. She not only gives her pers

In addition to her JD, she holds a Master’s of Business Administration from Amber University and a Master’s of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
