Wonderful Book. There are hundreds of thousands of books written about World War II. Yet most of these books are retrospective professorial type books. This book is something different. The letters from Carl Dunbar, to his Mom and Dad in New Haven Conn, gives you the feeling of being present in the hear and now yet the letters are from 1941-1943. Carl's son Peter Dunbar does a masterful job of tying the letters together giving the personal and historical background that sets the stage and gives ...more

Fantastic book by first time author. Helps you better appreciate the experiences and trials that many people underwent during World War II. Details one mans journey through graduation from college, to enlistment into the Navy, the eventually battling in the pacific theater.
