Have you held a novel in your hand and just after you starting reading it, knew that it was going to kick%$# and take names later? Well for me this is one of those novels. I have to say that this is going to be in my top ten for this quarter and possibly the top ten this year. I kid you not, that is how strongly I feel about this novel. This is one intense effort by the author, Benjamin Sobieck. The other thrill for me on this is that I am currently working with him in The Author’s Lab/Collabora ...more

Okay, the first mystery for me about this book was its title. CLEANSING EDEN. What did it mean? What kind of crime story has a title like that?
The story begins with two anonymous people -- a younger man and an older man -- burying a body. Turns out to be a dead celebrity. Right up front, you learn that the older man has an agenda. He wants to kill all the celebrities that are warping young people and, in his opinion, stealing their identities. He calls them pedophiles. I don't think that word me ...more

Drugs. Murder. Charismatic demigogues. What else does a reader need? Ben Sobieck's first book, and a damn good one. He's going to write more. And they will be just as great to read.

The older man's mission is to rid the world of the evil influence of "celebrity culture". The younger man is his drug-addled pawn. June is the celebrity reporter, annoyed with fluff pieces until famous names start getting murdered-- and her career is suddenly on the fast track.
Benjamin Sobieck does an admirable job in CLEANSING EDEN of lambasting our cultural obsession over celebrity, of poking fun at the vacuousness and falseness that comes with fame. There are times we're almost-- almost-- sym ...more

After a confusing start where we meet two unnamed men burying a corpse, which turns out to be a celebrity, and are introduced to the older characters rants on the evils of the world (which I found a bit preachy), the story moves along quite well as another celebrity is murdered and a reporter for Ce!eb magazine gets in on the story.
This tension builds well as the two men make an attempt on a third celebrity which has its pitfalls and the perils of their deeds weigh heavily on the younger of the ...more

not sure ow I feel about this story but I do know it annoyed me when June was kidnapped and the old man stole all her ID and credit cards and told her if she didn't do what he wanted he would ruin her. When she was let go she didn't go to the police because she was afraid. Well come on you go and file a report you call all your cards and your bank and he wouldn't be able to steal your Identity. She works for a TV station you get on and tell the viewers what happend so if anything is said people

This book was fair
It wasn't awful and wasn't great, landing somewhere in between. A celebrity hating scientist who is making new designer drugs tests them out on an addict in order to control him and coerce him into killing the hated celebrities. Just didn't grab my interest. ...more

It's a shame there isn't the option to give things minus stars, as this book is truly deeply awful. AWFUL. The prose is garbled at best, it's littered with typos and the plot and characterisation non-existent. Don't read it whatever you do.
