Forged from the shattered remains of the Dragon-Blooded Shogunate and tempered in the fires of war, the so-called Scavenger Lands continue to stand in defiance of the tyranny of the Realm, as they have done for eight centuries. Ranging from mighty Lookshy in the west to the eclectic Hundred Kingdoms in the east, the states of the former River Province offer a treasure trove of First Age wonders, minor dominions and mortal followers for the returned Solar Exalt willing to risk the wrath of the Seventh Legion to claim them.
A setting book for Exalted®, Second Edition
• The first of five Terrestrial Direction books devoted to fleshing out the bare bones of Creation presented in the Exalted core book, this one devoted to the Scavenger Lands
• Mass combat stats for the Seventh Legion and for other Confederation forces, as well as dominion stats for the Mandate of Heaven
• Stats for the Scavenger Lands’ native gods and beasts
Exalted - White Wolf's amazing game of power, consequence, and legend - has as it's base setting the Scavenger Lands, the patch of fertile and magic-rich land between the Inland Sea and the Great Forest of the east. Once the center of mercantile power in the Old Realm, the scavenger lands' main distinction in the Second Age is that it has never fallen under the yoke of the Realm of the Dragon-Blooded and it's wealth of hidden tombs and buried wonders. Although Exalted considers the Scavenger Lands it's primary setting, the corebook is a little slim in information.
Thankfully, White Wolf has published this really neat suppelement, giving us all the information we need to run in the Scavenger Lands. The book contains maps, a detailed history, and mass combat and Mandate of Heaven stats for Lookshy, Thorns, Great Forks, Nexus, and Greyfalls, and information on what dwells in the lost city of Denandsor. Several important local gods and monsters are also given full stats.
My only real complaint with the book is really more complaints with Exalted second edition as a game. The trend towards making the exalted (in this particular book, Lookshy) responsible for all the glory in the world is annoying. I much prefered the story of the Scavenger Lands back in first edition, when it was a region where the mortals kept themselves free through resourcefulness and pluck.
Finally, while I appreciated the detailed information on Thorns, I was really hoping for more information on Sijan, Creation's most neglected shadowland. I'm still holding out hope for more material on Sijan in the book of the East, or possibly Abyssals or the book on the Underworld.
All in all, Scavenger Lands is a solid addition to any exalted player's shelf. It's almost all fluff, and largely good fluff at that. Enjoy.
