Scarlet Lindstrom is all about luck, and lately hers is bad. After losing her job, boyfriend and home, she's forced to accept a position as a live-in nanny for a rebellious teenager so she can finish college and realize her dream of becoming a teacher. Luck has no place in Ethan Chandler's life as a workaholic CEO who grew up with a gambler mother. He swore off relationships after the only woman he ever loved disappeared with his baby daughter, years ago. When that child is suddenly dumped in his lap—an angry teenager bent on smashing every rule—all hell breaks loose. To complicate matters, the nanny has hijacked his heart.

This story was really easy to fall into, the characters are so 3D, their lives so realistic I could see it clearly. Scarlett and Ethan each had their own emotional issues. Neither one wanted another disastrous relationship, so when Ethan hires Scarlett as a nanny for Toni, the daughter he hasn't seen for years, No problem right? Wrong!!! And Toni has some deep emotional pain of her own, I wanted to slap her mother my self, but, luckily(pun) in the end Toni is all good....and Scarlett & Ethan? Well, the heart wants what the heart wants..... Well Done Ms. Daniels!
This was a well put together story of multidimensional characters with complex relationships.
Scarlet and Ethan (loved the names) each brought emotional scars to their relationship. Ethan's scars were probably more real with daughter being taken away by her mother for 14 years. Scarlet's scars were more self-inflicted and imagined because of her belief in luck or (non-luck in her case). Yes, Scarlet was left emotionally bereft after the death of her parents but everything else that happened to her in life was more a case of bad circumstances than bad luck.
And poor Toni, who believed the world conspired to abandon and disappoint her. She had a mother who ignored her for the comfort of rich men and she thought her father, Ethan, was dead because that is what her mother told her. As a result, she developed a rigid and almost impenetrable shell around herself. Scarlet and Ethan worked hard to break through her emotional barriers and gained her trust little by little. Unfortunately, the trust was tenuous and Toni ran away when she discovered that Scarlet and Ethan slept together. The whole implausibility of the story for me came in the fact that Toni didn't just run away but she fled the country...all the way to Italy...and managed to elude her parents and a private investigator by slightly altering her appearance and staying several steps ahead of them. Yes, she was a smart girl, but that line of story was just way over the top for me.
Another small issue that I had with the story was Ms. Daniels brought in a story element that was left dangling by the end of the story. She wove in the element of Scarlet drawing and the fact that she stopped drawing upon the death of her parents. She said she lost her joy and her motivation. Well, she found it at the end of the story in her new family but nothing was ever mentioned about her drawing. A critical writing rule is to close the loop of story threads...sorry, but this one was left open.
That said...overall, this was a very enjoyable story.
Description: When down-on-her-luck Scarlet Eldrige accepts a job as a nanny for a hellion teen, she’s thoroughly unprepared for the passion her charge’s father, Ethan, makes her feel. Can she keep both the unruly teenager and her attraction to Ethan in check?
The Good: Scarlet is a very sweet girl, and the theme of luck is played out very well. The story had a strong, compelling plot, and the sex scenes were hot and well-executed. Certainly worth the very small price!
The Bad: Scarlet is very concerned that everyone (including her bratty charge) likes her, and at times comes off as a doormat. Readers who don’t like “weak” characters will find this heroine a bit frustrating. Also, there is a somewhat cliche, and ultimately unneeded beginning with the old cheating boyfriend break-up scene.
The Naughty: Steamy>Erotic. Serious sexual tension.
This was my first read from this author, and I really liked it. They story line was good, and it was very heartwarming. All of the family issues that were going on really kept the story very interesting, and kept me on my toes wondering what was going to happen next. Ethan and Scarlet also bought quite a bit of heat to the story. You could really feel the love and passion in their love scenes. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
Great story about family and their relationships (of the good and bad) and steamy romance. Loved the main characters-Scarlet, Ethan and Ethan's daughter Toni (a 14 yr. old minx). I so despised Toni's mother Carmelita)!! Also, the instant sexual attraction between Scarlet and Ethan was steamy, even though they try to fight it. This story was so well done, it had me laughing and crying. I absolutely recommend this book and you won't be sorry you bought it.
This was a wonderful story. I loved how Ethan and Scarlett, the main characters Troy to avoid their attraction at first. But once the admit to it the scenes are steamy. I love the way Scarlett approaches her relationship with Ethan's teen daughter, Toni. Toni is a teen that has been pushed aside by her mother all her life so her mother could find a rich man. This story is full of anger, tears, laughter and love.
I really enjoyed the relationship between the main characters Scarlet and Ethan. They were fun to read about and to cheer for. Tehran's daughter Toni was my favorite and I felt she brought the whole story and family together.
This is a great romance read that was pleasantly different from other romances.
REVIEW Yet another fantastic book by Author Wynter Daniels.
Scarlet's world fell apart as a young girl. She had superstitions just like her mother. And she knew something bad was happening but didn't know what. Her sister played it off and told her nothing was wrong but she knew when they got out of the car and saw the state trooper something had definitely gone wrong.
We move forward 10 years. Scarlet has had the day from hell as a teacher and wants nothing more than to go home and unwind and pray she doesn't lose her job. She walks into her bedroom and sees her boyfriend Kevin splayed out in the bed naked. She thinks nothing of this at first and hopes he can help her unwind. Well after a bit of play she pulls a bra out and its not hers. Out comes her best friend in just her panties. So Scarlets day just went from bad to worse. Not only is she losing her job she has also now lost a best friend and a cheating boyfriend.
Ethan Chandler CEO grew up horribly . The Woman he loved disappeared with his baby daughter.
He has suddenly taken on the parent role for a teenage daughter he has never had anything to do with since she was a baby.
Can nanny Scarlet help them? And help mend Ethan's heart and her own?

Very sweet and romantic story. Scarlet was a supersticious girl who loved kids and needed a job desparately. Ethan was a man who's ex took his daughter at the age of 2 and dropped her back in his lap at 14. Needless to say his daughter Toni, had some major issues. Scarlet interviewed for the position of "nanny/tutor" and was instantly attracted to Ethan and he was to her. The story brought 3 strangers together and made them a family. The plan to get Scarlet back was classic and sweet. Enjoyable read!!
Employee Relations is another great read. Wynter Daniels is one of my favorite writers. Her unique writing style intrigues me in each one of her books that I read. Scarlett and Ethan's romance was not your typical one, but it was a story that I enjoyed reading because the character's chemistry were on point. I'm not going to spoil the story for other readers, so I will end with this is a definite must read.
A pretty good book to read for a weekend or rainy day. The only problem I had was that I felt (by some of the descriptions in the story), that scarlet was white.
Great read, hot characters and excellent chemistry. Wynter Daniels does it again with a very engaging book. I love the character interaction and the dynamics of the story. Scarlett and Ethan are a great couple with explosive reactions to each other. The book has the right balance of everything and I was endured to the character's storyline. This read is well worth reading **Highly Recommend**
I loved this story by Wynter Daniels. Yes it is a romance, but mostly it is about family. How your family from your past and present regulate your life and your life choices. Ethan Chandler is getting his daughter back. When he and his wife divorced she took their daughter to Italy and changed her name. She now wants some privacy with her new man and sends her daughter back to him. Now 14, rebellious angry and hurt, Ethan doesn't know how to deal with her. So he hires Scarlet to come be her "Nanny". Scarlet just lost her job, found her boyfriend in bed with her friend and moved in with her pregnant sister and her husband needs, this position at all costs. She wasn't expecting to be attracted to her new employer. Ethan needs Scarlet to come in and help him with his daughter and he needs to keep his attraction to her in check. Through all this, their experiences with their parents, past relationships and current family way heavy on their choices in life and their attraction to one another. Will they be able to move forward. As I said I loved this story. I love the characters back stories and their undeniable attraction to one another. What I love more is the "family" of this story. Scarlet and her sister, Ethan with his daughter and eventually with his own mother. Wynter writes her stories so well, all your questions to the characters behaviors are answered. Then at the base is a love story, a finding of two people that just warm your heart, with some hot love scenes. You will not regret reading this book. I loved every minute of it.
it was an ok book... maybe it would have been better if the book was longer. it would have given the characters time to develop and more depth.... also the love story was not very convincing. i could not really feel the chemistry between the two leads... and i got a feeling he was still in love with he's ex wife too
Pretty good read though Scarlet was a bit of a pill at times. The whole superstition thing could have played out a little better but I liked it anyway.
This is an interracial book that I read 3 years ago and remembered nothing about it. Wanting a simple easy read, this one kept coming to mind. It is similar to a lot of interracial stories with the rich white man and the poor black woman whose skin color goes from alabaster to caramel colored. Her eye color may be hazel but can't imagine that being confused with blue. The bottom line is that he's a gorgeous, rich white male, Ethan Chandler, and she's a beautiful African American, Scarlett Lindstrom, with nothing.
The difference is she has no children nor is it an "oops" unplanned pregnancy story. it's a story about developing relationship and forgiveness which follows anger, jealousy and misunderstandings. He gains custody of his 14 year old daughter whom he hasn't seen in 12 years. His daughter, Toni, Antonia (named Ashley at birth) is a huge challenge with rainbow colored hair and facial piercing and body odor. She's been raised in Italy by a mother more interested in marrying a rich man than raising a daughter until the daughter interfered with her marrying a wealthy man, and was sent her to her Dad. Scarlett is a college student who wants to teach and has always worked in child care, but lost her job and boyfriend the same day. She's sleeping on her sister and brother-in-law's couch. She desperately needs a job and after being interviewed is hired on the spot as a nanny.
Of course, his daughter hates him and her also. The plot deals with relationships developing with Toni and Scarlett and Toni and her father. Scarlett is gradually winning Toni over as her relationship with her Dad improves. Toni is told the truth about how her mother has lied to her and her feelings for her Dad changes. So does the relationship with Ethan and Scarlett. In spite of the sexual chemistry, they fought giving in. One night, they gave in and the next morning, Toni sees her Dad leaving Scarlett's room. She's still so fragile, she thinks her Dad doesn't want her, so she runs away.
The rest of the story deals with her Dad getting her back, her deal with Scarlett to leave and even Ethan's mother entering their lives, thanks to Scarlett. The weirdest thing is how superstitious Scarlett is and how she's putting acorns in pockets and purses and in other items of clothing for good luck. Ethan's mother was a gambler is depended on luck and gambled away everything including Ethan's lunch money. He doesn't believe in luck, good or bad. Scarlett lost her parents due to bad luck, she thinks.
Relationships are repaired, truths are told, there's forgiveness and a family come together. Of course there's a HEA.
This book is only so-so to me. Things that annoyed me:
1. The heroine is so into good luck/bad luck that it rules her life. Not only that, she allows her superstition to effect her relationships with others. Her sister thinks its bunk, the guy she works for thinks its bunk, but yet, she subjects them to her craziness. Even so far as to put acorns in people's purses and clothing. This is obsessive and insane and the story touches on a resolution, however, you don't really see a break from it. I understood that she relied on luck from the description, I did not expect it to let it control her. 2. She comes off as an arm chair psychiatrist. She knows whats best for the children at the various daycares where she has been been employed, but has lost her job because of these opinions. Also, she is still in school to get her Early Childhood Education degree so she has no bases for all of this advice. She also puts her nose where it doesn't belong several times in dealing with his mother. She completely crossed the line with her actions and yet she felt justified because she "knew what was best". 3. The love came to fast-the whole book covers only a short period of time however, the main characters are so in love halfway through the book.
In the end, I just wanted to finish it. I would loan this book to a friend but with a caveat. TTFN-Sandy
Ehh...okay. This is my first read by Daniels and I found it to be highly predictable and drawn out. The characters are pretty well written in Scarlet, Ethan and that brat Toni. Having said that, there are numerous editing issues and some character confusion. The story moves along at a fast enough pace to keep interest and entertain. Nothing memorable about the story to make it stand out and the fairy tale ending just didn't do me any justice. Not good, not bad, just reading material.
Sweet, sassy and romantic! When Scarlett discovered her boyfriend cheating with her best friend, she thought her life was over. So she accepts a job as a nanny and meets the man of her dreams! Great story!
