The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it's the last one in the Lake & March series. Lavinia & Tobias are the most entertaining sleuth duo since Maddie Hayes and David Addison. The murder mystery is complicated and engrossing. The secondary couples, Anthony and Emeline, and Lady Dove and Lord Vale, serve to move the plot along in substantial ways but are also interesting couples in their own right. The addition of Dominic Hood seemed excessive at first but his conflict with ...more

The third and last in the Lavinia Lake/Tobias March series, this one is perhaps my favorite of the three, although they are all terrific. The plot line has the novelty of the four private investigators (helped by their two higher-born friends) pursuing an early version of a "hit man". By now, the characters seem like old friends. Lord Vale and Joan Dove are back, Anthony and Emeline develop further as characters, and Priscilla gets a bigger part (very minor role in the first two). She is joined ...more

I've enjoyed all three of the Lavinia Lake, Tobias March books, but this is definitely my favorite. The suspense plot was good, with interesting twists. I knew something odd was going on, but couldn't figure out the timing. The ending was interesting and satisfying. While I could have done without the slightly paranormal parts of the books, overall I enjoyed the characters in all three, and in this one especially. I felt

Sweet and in keeping with the rest of the series. I thought the Emiline/Anthony story would get wrapped up more neatly, but I was impressed with the misdirection away from the killer for most of the book. I knew it was her, but the book kept insisting it wasn't just long enough for me to doubt my read on the situation.

I bought this book at a resale shop, not realizing it was number 3 in the series. This historical fiction was a very smooth read and was not hindered at all by the fact that I had not read books 1 & 2, Slightyly Shady and Don't Look Back. I will definitely read them. This is the story of Tobias March and Laviavia set in Great Britain. They try to get away from London for a tryst at a castle. This is apparently very common and somewhat sanctioned and acceptable for the widowed. They unfortuna ...more

This is the third Lake/March book by Amanda Quick. The two have realized their feelings for each other and must work to find time together. When they are invited to a house party, the$y believe that everything will be great. Lavinia finds a woman with her arms around Tobias, and becomes disgruntled. They witness a murder and are kicked out of the party. They come back to London on the hunt for a killer. Tobias’s past comes back to haunt him, and he tries to keep Lavinia out of the case. Great historical romance, and mystery.I love the relationship between Lavinia, and Tobias. The are partners in a detective agency and in love. During a time neither were fashionable. She is a widow, and some allowances are made for her slips in what is fashionable in the ton. I love her go to spirit, and his reactions...will definitely read more books about them. I like Amanda Quick, as an author. Good Read! It is especially fun since it revolves around marriages that the families command, and t ...more

I haven't read the first two in the trilogy. This actually reads quite well on it's own. I did want to bash in Tobias' head (view spoiler).

Eh. Not my favorite Amanda Quick by a long shot. I feel as if Mrs Lake and Mr March have been going on a little too long before this book. Good part is, I've decided I get to free up some shelf space by getting rid of this one.

The old guy on the bench was the best part! And the rationale behind the first few victims was pretty brilliant.

I suspected the villain initially, but when all the clues pointed elsewhere, I figured I was wrong. I guess I wouldn't be a very good detective!

Good

I enjoyed reading this book. I liked how it tied up all the characters in the end. Worth the buy.

Ooops! I skipped book 2. No harm done, one need not read them in order. This mystery is the investigation of finding a serial killer. Some other mysteries are resoved also and all the couples finally wind up happily ever after.

The last book of firm Lake & March!

This is a historical romantic suspense novel, the final book in a three part series, about Lavinia Lake and Tobias March, occasional business partners and sometimes lovers.

I wish I could give it a five, but it just wouldn't be fair. I would have to say the first two books in the series were more to my liking. I actually preferred the bantering between Lavinia and Tobias and hoped for a little more of it in book three. It didn't necessarily live up to my expectations in that department. I also ho

Ok, so for a book I didn't remember much about,in re-read this was very good. I think I appreciate it a lot more this time around because I read the 2 book that come before it and know the characters. This is classified as romance but as the romance has been going on for the last 2 books before it, it is really the over arc. There is a definite mystery and then the character driven plot centers around the relationships of, of course Lavina and Tobias, but then also their wards, and then a couple ...more

This is book 3 in the series starring Lavinia Lake and Tobias March. It picks up where book 2 left off...
Tobias is falling hard for Lavinia, becomming more and more frustrated, trying all through the novel to find more private time with her, in this fast pased murder mystery. In true alpha male style, he is becomming even more protective of Lavinia, yet she thwarts him at every turn. He is unsure of his ability to provide financially for Lavinia, and she is a widow who has stated she will never

Amanda Quick’s specialty using this pen-name (she’s Jayne Krantz as well), is 1810-1820’s London mysteries. Unlike most books of their era it probably points to a more forward thinking, i.e. industrial revolution was coming and work class would have been impacted at that time. Mrs. Lake is a paragon for the modern women; she works at ‘discrete investigations’ with her sometimes partner Mr. March. The novels (series of three and this is the third and final of that series), has a definite Sherlock ...more

Now that I've finished the trilogy, I'm going back and changing my ratings to fives. So good! I'd love to keep reading about Lavinia and Tobias, but this series was so satisfying, I'm OK with its end. This series manages what so many others don't (Stephanie Plum and the Royal Spyness series come to mind, although they are both much different): the characters evolve and don't repeat annoying mistakes and character flaws, which is usually done to stall the romantic plot or create conflict. Lavinia ...more

The Lake/March trilogy from Amanda Quick (Slightly Shady, Don't Look Back, and Late for the Wedding) are among my favorite books by this author. I think it's because neither the hero nor the heroine are aristocrats. They don't have a lot of money. They don't have high-flying prospects. They don't own a lot of property. This makes the series different than most other regency romances. How does Tobias make his way and help to support his young brother-in-law? How will Lavinia make enough money to ...more

This was an enjoyable book with some unpredictable plot twists. B-.

One of my favorite things about having finished this book is that I now know where I am in the series. I've read both previous books. As with much by Amanda Quick (a pen name for Jayne Krentz) they tiptoe along the line between fantasy and romance. This third had fewer fantastic elements than the previous two.

This book is not part of my project to read 50 books by authors of color this year. As you may already be aware the overwh
