The Turning Seventeen series follows 4 best friends Kerri, Jessica, Maya, and Erin as they deal with all the fun, adventures, difficulties, and dramas of their senior year.
Book 3 is Maya's story. Maya has not been herself lately after being assaulted at a party by a guy she had a crush on. Now, the fallout of that is terrible. Him and his friends taunt her and spread terrible rumors about her. She has her friends to confide in, but she still feels scared and anxious all the time. In addition to all that, Her dad is running for political office. With his campaign comes advisors and events and interviews. His life is so full of work, that he doesn't really have time for her, and she doesn't feel like she can really be honest with him about what's going on in her life for fear of him blowing up. So then when Maya does meet a boy that she can actually trust and likes, she doesn't feel like she can tell him about that either, and secrets are no good for a political campaign, or for her and her fathers already strained relationship.
I continue to love this series! Very cute and quick read with real, honest events and problems and perspectives of a teenage girl! I was definitely rooting for Maya the whole time and cried at times because her story was such a tough one and I loved that it dealt with real pain and trauma in such an authentic way.
