The story follows a little robot named Anvil, partially destroyed in a storm caused by an evil witch who believes any kind of iron and metal machines are an abomination and should be destroyed. Will, an old man and Anvil’s creator, is on a mission to help the orphaned children who reside in the mansion with the witch and have to do her every wish. When the Land of Iron and Anvil is partially destroyed by her evil magic, Will sets off towards the Land of Shadows along with another orphan named Sonny and his dog Ranger to set things right and free the land from the oppressive witch. The story follows them through treacherous landscapes and haunts that bring chills to your bones as these three journey along. They meet Kelsey, a brave and strong orphaned girl who has escaped the mansion seeking help for her peers. All together they face the treacherous old witch and test their strength and bonds together against the ultimate plan to overtake the world.
The story flows seamlessly; the action immediately sucks you in. Highly imaginative! I found that the easy flow words brought me into the dark foreboding places of this imaginative world easily and kept me on the edge of my seat many times. The author makes you care about the characters and want to see them win, and hope they make it through all their hardships in one piece! I love the history of the lands and the little snippets of information that indulge you of the workings of this treacherous place. It’s a story to be enjoyed by all ages for sure!

This book was magical from start to end. I never thought I would come to like a little whistling robot in a story as much as I did in this one.
In “Little Orphan Anvil’ the characters are utterly lovable! A young boy and his very clever dog; a little girl with a fire fly in a jar; a good, kind old man and of course our favorite robot droid, all meet up along the way on a quest to free the orphaned children from the evil old witch who is forcing them to work in her magical garden. A garden destined to aid in the domination of the entire realm by the rule of the witch.
The story is full of exhilarating adventure as this small group journeys through dangerous lands to get to the Land of Shadows where the witch has her mansion; and where she keeps all the orphans under a magical spell. There are also some thoroughly terrifying moments when the group is attacked by numerous supernatural entities.
Joseph Beekman is a master at combining nature, technology and magic to create an absolutely exceptional story. His technique of starting a chapter with a description of the surroundings, places the reader right there in the middle of the action. It was easy for me to live myself into the story because of this.

Hi y'all Anne here I have just finished reading Little Orphan Anvil by Joseph Beekman and what a perfect little story. This story is brought to life in a land where Iron work is a magic and robot droids are a thing of legend. I loved the story from page one it captured me in the description of a time far from now and the struggle good people will always have no matter what has happened to the world. The characters are so sweet and lovable and truly endearing to the story and its base of good will prevail. The little robot is so cute a true beacon in a time of darkness for little Sonny and his pal Ranger. Bringing together Will and thus embarking on the adventure that will change the lives of so many little orphans caught in the clutches of an evil dark witch bent on destroying the land of Iron and Anvil. I loved this book it's a sweet little story written in a good light and can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. In fact I'll be getting my son a copy of this cause I know he will just love it. 5 out of 5 stars for Little Orphan Anvil by Joseph Beekman what a lovely story I can't wait for more from this author.

I’m not sure what age this book was written for but it is a lovely story and could appeal to children and adults alike. The writing is simple, there are no words of profanity and the fight scenes are not too graphic for young people!
The magical realm that Joseph sent us to was a very dark and depressing place with little hope until Sonny and his dog Ranger happened across the droid (Anvil). They then went on to meet Will, Anvil’s maker and Kelsey a young girl who was a strong and brave character. Together they travel to the land of shadows to defeat the witch. The story is action packed full of fun and adventure. It’s a quick and easy read with a feel good ending.

Little Orphan Anvil was a quick,lighthearted and a really good read with adventures,action and an adorable robot!
The story is about an orphan robot and its journey to save a realm from the hands of an evil witch.The Land Of Iron and Anvil gets destroyed by a wild storm,and the robot gets lost in the destruction caused by it.After some time,Sonny,a little boy along with his dog,discovers the robot and it gets united with its creator,Will.Together the four of them set off on a journey to save the realm from the evil witch.
I had a little difficulty in getting into the book,for the first few chapters.But as the story continued,the pace quickened and I started enjoying it.The story wasn't boring and kept me gripped as Will and the team faced new challenges and went through new adventures.There was a lot of action in this book,that kept me turning pages.Although at some points the story seemed a little rushed but it was cleverly written ,easy to read and was set in an amazing world.The surroundings were described in a very realistic way and I loved that! .
On the whole,this book was an adventurous read.Mr.Joseph did an amazing job with the theme, characters and the story line.I really enjoyed this book and would recommend this book to those who like a lighthearted,sci-fi/fantasy read with a twist of magic in it.

I was given this book in exchange for a honest review.
This book is either YA or adult. It is a fiction book with robot, magic/sorcery, and an evil witch. This book is not the normal genre I read about. I really enjoyed this book. It is a fast paced read that will leave you wanting to know what happens next to all the loveable characters.
It is a story about several Orphans of different natures coming together in an attempt rescue other orphans from a mansion run by an evil witch. The evil witch put a spell on the orphans at the mansion and are holding them prisoners to do her bidding. What will happen to the orphans? You have to read it to find out!!! I give it a four star review.

Little Orphan Anvil is a sweet little tale about a boy and a robot in a dangerous land with evil lurking at every corner.
This book was very much like a fairy tale and the plot progressed along with nice descriptions and fabulous world building. The bad witch is bad as can be, and the good guys, the heroes, a boy, a robot, the robot maker along with a the dog, must succeed in bringing peace and harmony to a land ravaged by evil. I believe that this book will resonate with a much younger audience -perhaps 9 and above...very cute and enjoyable none the least. Let the kids enjoy this one!

Very well written as well as a fast page turner. Not too long but then not too short either. I loved Will's character as well as Sonny and Kelsey's characters. With a little bit of history as to the time and age. The book takes you on a wonderful mission set out by Will, Sonny and a robot-droid.

Little Orphan Anvil is a multi layered story. Structurally and grammatically this story is expertly written.
I'm unsure as to what market age the book was aimed at. I am however convinced that children of all ages would enjoy the basic story line. It’s the adults however that will see more in this story.
The cultural clash between old and new, between magic and industrialisation, between belief and hopelessness, and several other aspects run through this story with effortless clarity and to the more critical reader religious undertones in the story will become apparent.
I believe that this is one of those unique stories that would leave the reader with an impression that can relate to the readers own personal experience.
In essence this is a story about a little robot droid, orphaned by a storm, a little boy and his dog, orphaned by a war and an old man orphaned due to his belief system. As these three meet up with an escaped orphan a family is made. One that works as well separated as it does a unit. For me this 66 page read was an exploration into that one common denominator between all of us, hope.
I loved the story and plan to read it again soon. This time without the eye of a reviewer but of a person who adores well written stories with meanings deeper than which is obvious on the surface.
I would definitely recommend this book to all who have an hour to spare. It will enrich every reader's life; of this I have no doubt.

I am a lover of sci-fi/fantasy all the way from my head to my toes, and I have been on a long quest to find a compelling and fun story that I could use to entice my young sons into the world of fantasy as well. This is it! Little Orphan Anvil by Joseph Beekman fulfills all of my requirements for a great sci-fi/fantasy read and it well written for both adults and children alike.
The most important thing I look for is characters that I can believe in. While all of the main characters of this story are well written and believable, Sonny and his dog Ranger are a perfect pairing. They offer companionship and loyalty but more importantly, Ranger has a spark of special communication and understanding that he shares with Sonny. The sage old companion and inventor Will is a great mentor to this pair and what story wouldn't be complete without a heroic young girl? And of course, there is the star of the story, the little robot.
Besides the great characters, Beekman does a great job of keeping the story moving with action and adventure that never quits. Each scene is filled with great description and dialogue that doesn't waste time but moves the story along. As I read aloud to my oldest son he was held in thrall for long stretches (which is pretty amazing considering nothing holds him in his seat for long).
The only thing I would want to change is that the story seems to be over just as it gets started; however, I had the second novel ready to go and immediately jumped into the next story once I had finished Little Orphan Anvil. This is a story that leaves you wanting to know more and go on further adventures with the little group of friends.
I highly recommend this story to readers of all ages. In addition, it is written so that a reader doesn't have to be a fan of sci-fi/fantasy to enjoy it. The author recommended that it would be appropriate for children as young as 8, but my almost-five year old did enjoy many parts of it read aloud to him.

Where to start....
I haven't read a children's book for a really long time, and I'm so glad this is the first one that came my way (I won it in a competition) for me to get stuck back into children's fiction.
Joseph Beekman is a fantastic storyteller, and manages to weave a tale that is both simple to read, yet so imaginative.
This story is fast-paced (just the way I like my books), but none of the characters or plot was compromised as a result. The story goes along at just the right level of speed to keep children and adults alike entertained. I would say that kids from about ten would get the most out of it, but a mature seven year old that is good at reading / good with words would love it too. From an adult's perspective, it's simply a joy to read.
Also, don't hesitate in buying it if you're not into robots. I thought I would have trouble with the robot concept, but I didn't - it was as cute as WALL-E :)
There's action, magic, twists and turns - thoroughly enjoyable - I can't think of a better word; it really was a joy to read.
Lastly, I have to say (we're all so used to snazzy book covers nowadays), please don't be put off by the plain looking cover. It hides a gem of a story.
I urge anyone to have a peek at the 'look inside' feature that Amazon offer for this book, to get a glimpse of the writing, although I have to say that the story really gets going after the sample shown, so please bear this in mind.

I was given this book to review by the author, To be completely truthful, I was not sure I would like it, as I have never read robot stories before but to be honest, it was good, I didn’t feel that the robot was in it enough to be honest, I thought for a while that Sonny and Kelsey the 2 children, were the main characters, it wasn’t until I read the write up about the book, that I realised that The Orphan Anvil was the Robot Droid, which surprised me no end, I loved the story of friendship that they all shared and trying to save all the other children, I could actually see the events unfolding in my mind, I loved the concept of the story, it was brilliant and brilliantly written, I loved Kelsey’s story, she should have her own little story book, I would highly recommend this book to younger readers, My daughter will love it, 4/5

I was given this book to review by the author, To be completely truthful, I was not sure I would like it, as I have never read robot stories before but to be honest, it was good, I didn’t feel that the robot was in it enough to be honest, I thought for a while that Sonny and Kelsey the 2 children, were the main characters, it wasn’t until I read the write up about the book, that I realised that The Orphan Anvil was the Robot Droid, which surprised me no end, I loved the story of friendship that they all shared and trying to save all the other children, I could actually see the events unfolding in my mind, I loved the concept of the story, it was brilliant and brilliantly written, I loved Kelsey’s story, she should have her own little story book, I would highly recommend this book to younger readers, My daughter will love it, 4/5

I was given this book in return for an honest review. This is a sci-fi type story set in a land of sorcery. When blacksmiths discover ancient mechanical & technological secrets, everything changes, much to the dislike of an old witch. The blacksmiths build robot-droids that help do everything. The old witch runs an orphanage and plots to destroy all things mechanical and technological. Will, a nice old man builds a robot-droid, thinking he can help the orphans. He wants them to play more and work less. The witch kicks him put and moves on with her evil plans, using the orphans and old sorcery. Sonny and his dog Ranger are in the first and find Will's robot-droid buried in the mud, separated from Will during a horrible storm, created by the witch to destroy all mechanical things. Sonny and Will find each other and vow to help free the orphans. After a treacherous journey and finding one of the orphans, Kelsey, they go and battle the witch. Question is can they save the children and will they realize how much more is at stake before its too late for everyone?? Cool book, nice change from the norm. I thought it was an incredibly original story which I know will be continued so you can see what the robot-droid(little orphan anvil) and his cohorts will do next. WaAr

What an easy read for children of any age! Highly recommend for kids learning to read chapter books or for reading time with an adult. A great story line that has just enough magic, just enough mystery, just enough of an evil witch and plenty of tail wagging by a dog! A great Sci-Fi book for kids!

Sonny, a boy displaced by the storm leaves his home land searching for a new place to live. He finds an unexpected friend along the way who is a robot and together they find Will, the robot's maker. Their travels lead them to a land of Dark Shadows in an attempt to rescue orphans being held prisoner by an evil witch with plans to dominate the lands around them. With an escaped orphan, the group bands together and plots to take down the witch and not only save the orphans but the world. Oily villains, ancient ghosts and rain are constant threats as they get closer to the evil mansion....
A story of friendship, honor, bravery and compassion, it is a sure winner! I can't wait to see where book 2 goes!

I loved this series!
I must start out with that the development of the characters in these stories is fantastic! It is what hit me the most out of this trilogy of stories! This is a fantastic read for anyone who likes YA or Adult Sci-fi and I would recommend to any of my Sci-Fi friends!
In the first book, it is the religious overtones that I found most interesting buried into the writing. I don’t know if they were intentional or not and that what makes them even better, but they are subtle enough they don’t take away from the story! Book One really makes you want to dive right into book two!

This book starts with a little robot named Anvil, she is all most destroyed by a big storm created by a witch who hates everything everything made of iron and thinks they should be destroyed.
Will, the man who made Anvil sets off on a a mission to the land of shadows and with him goes another little orphan named sonny and his dog. they want to find a way to set Anvil free and the land of iron free from the evil witch.Along the way they meet others who want the same and they come together to set everything free from the evil witch and her darkness.
Over all view: Oh wow, what an amazing story. It gets you gripped right from the start with the action but I will say it isn't to graphic so children will be able to read this book as well as adults. The writing in this book flows freely and its a really easy read. I found I couldn't put the book down because I needed to know what was going to happen to Anvil and her friends. I'm going to say a big well done to Joseph for this wonderful book that I was able to sit down and enjoy with my children. If you haven't read this book then please take the time to read it because you will enjoy it, I promise you.

A Review of the Little Orphan Anvil by Joseph Beekman
This is a trilogy that parents and older children can both enjoy. The author's imagination is impressive in the manner within which he describes the surprising world he created where magic and metal meld together. I have never before read a book that combines the sci-fi favorite of robotics with one of my favorites - magic.
It is essentially a refreshing play on the evil witch story but what makes this trilogy even more unique is the unexpected twists that the reader definitely would not be able to predict. What makes this a great read for older children is that it inspires that feeling of appeasement, from knowing that good can overcome evil despite the many adversities that the characters face in each of the books.
I would recommend this to readers that loved Harry Potter and felt disappointed when the series ended. This to me, is something you can pick up and find delight that will nurture your imagination in the most unexpected, yet fantastic way.

I was offered the complete trilogy to read for an honest review and I'm so glad I had all three books together as the writiing and storytelling just got better and better!
In the first book we meet Will and his cat Stella. Will's offer of help to an old woman running an orphange is declined, condemning the orphans to a life of servitude. A few weeks later, Sonny and his dog Ranger find a metal object stuck in the mud in the woods and the robot, Anvil, leads them to Will and together they embark on a quest to save the orphans.
In the second book we meet Tabitha and her quest partners Will, Tinspar, Aleeria and Anvil. Tabitha was the character who 'hooked' me and once she entered the story, I couldn't put my kindle down!
In the third book, Jonathan and Haley are added to the quest and help destroy the giant pumpkin with the meteorite full of the old magic of the realm.
Though fast paced and full of magic, these fantasy stories also deal with the human condition and it's frailties...guilt, loyalty, fear, love and friendship.
Great storytelling...you will love it:-)

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, and all I can say is "WOW". I really enjoyed this book, and I love the characters that created such a wonderful world, and an interesting story. The witches fear of progress drives her to the destruction of the land of Iron and Anvil, afraid of the magic of the droid robots.
Will, being from the lands of Iron and Anvil finds Sonny who has with him a little robot who is bad need of some attention. The little group overcome some treacherous conditions, and evil things in order to get back to the witch and the orphans who he wants to save from her menacing ways.
I love how the story flows so easily, and I love that this is also a story I could share with my children as I think they would really enjoy the little robot and all the amazing things he can do.
I can't wait to read the next installment in the series to see what happens next in the groups adventures.

Sonny and his pet dog find an abandoned robot on their travels to find better pastures and believe their luck to have finally turned after their homeland was destroyed.
Will is an old handy man from an orphanage and the original creator of the robot. He's been travelling on the river to head home when he encounters Sonny and the group decide to rescue the orphans from the clutches of an evil Witch.
Their journey is far and perilous but with their little robot and courage nothing can defeat them.
I assume this book was intended for the YA category but it was a sweet enjoyable read.
The dialogue could be abit formal and felt as though it didn't quite have a smooth feel to it but was easily understandable.
I would have liked more of a back story and detail but for the younger crowd I think it's fine.
The ending wrapped up nicely and paves the way for new characters to be introduced in the sequels.

The entire realm and several orphans fate are in the hands of a child, his dog, a robot, and its creator. They must save the orphans from and evil witch that has destroyed the Land of Iron and Anvil. Along the journey, they have several obstacles the must overcome before the real battle begins.
I really enjoyed this book. I am not much for "robot reads" but I would have to say that this one surprised me and is towards the top of my list of faves. I am a sucker for good verses evil. I would recommend this book for all ages. This is one I will be passing on to my 12 year old to read. I can't wait to see what journey volume 2 holds.

I really liked Little Orphan Anvil. At 139 pages, it was a short read. The book only took me about an hour to read. The plot was fast paced and fun. There was never a boring moment where I wanted to put the book down. I loved hearing about all of the different lands. The land of Iron and Anvil was my favorite. I didn’t find any spelling, grammar, or punctuation mistakes when I was reading. I liked all of the characters. When I was reading the book, I pictured the robot as the robot from Clannad for some reason. My favorite character was Will. He was extremely wise. He was willing to risk his life for a bunch of children he had never met before. I also liked Ranger. He was devoted to Sonny. The book didn’t end with any loose ends. I’m not sure how there will be a sequel. Never the less, I am excited to dive into it. I recommend Little Orphan Anvil for anyone from 12 to 112.

An evil witch, an orphaned robot, an orphanage full of children under an evil spell and 2 guys and a dog out to save the day. Not your normal mix of characters for a storyline, but it works well.
The book follows the journey of Will, Sonny, Ranger (the dog) and Anvil (the robot) as they make their way through lands back to an orphanage Will used to work at, before coming to blows with the witch that runs it. Having always regretting leaving the children behind to her dark magic, they are determined together to do what it takes to free the children, and give them back some childhood.
A quick read, that’s incredibly imaginative and magical. The story flows nicely, and with no graphic violence, it’s perfect for younger readers.

Little Orphan Anvil (LOA) is an amazing read. Follow the little robot droid, Sonny, Ranger, Will and Kelsey as they journey between lands and set about to do good, maybe save some people too... I don’t wanna give out many details as I don’t know which parts to pick!
The author weaves a spell of magic and makes you never want to stop reading till you are at the last word of the last line. A nice lighthearted read. Absolutely magical and interesting. You can’t help but love the little robot and find sympathy in your hearts for the little orphans. Magic, robot droids and a beautifully written story. LOA appeals to the kid in your heart!

I received this book from the author to give an honest review.
When I received this book I wondered what it was exactly about since I did not read the synopsis, I was truly glad I had a chance to read it. This book is perfect for all ages and I am sure everyone will really enjoy reading it.
Little Orphan Anvil has magic and there is no profanity and the fight scenes are not graphic. It has been a while since I read a good children's story.
If you like to read a great sci-fi/fantasy story that has a great ending and will leave you loving the characters especially the robot. Then I highly suggest you give Little Orphan Anvil a read.

I will tell you that this is not the type of books I read I am more of a romance reader, but I really enjoyed this read. It is more in my opinon a YA read but adults will enjoy this too. The characters in this story are very loveable and it's a very fast paced read.
I think that young adult readers would enjoy this book due to all of the different characters including the robot, ophans, and the evil witch. Also who don't like a little magic in a story. This author knows how to write a great story I would recommend this series to anyone. Want a great book that fast and easy to read then pick this one up today.

Little Orphan Anvil was a delightful read, suitable for adults and children alike. Joseph weaves the words beautifully, describing in great detail a world full of characters that you instantly connect with.
A bit of mystery, a bit of magic and a lot of commraderie, this book leaves you smiling as you read the last word. And considering that this type of genre is not something I normally read (since I am much more dark and twisted) I found myself slipping back to the wondrous awe of innocent childhood as I let my imagination sink into this world.

I give this awesome story 10*s out of five. Its a story about Orphans and the wicked witch that holds them persioners and do her bidding.
Will being an elderly man who builds a machine that ends up being an Orphan too until a boy and his dog finds it. Its an awesome machine that goes through alot to save the poor Orphan children, which in the end gets the name Anvil!!
This was a cute little story and a Must read book that will not take long to read but has a lot of action in this little book. Thank you Joseph Beekman!!

"Little Orphan Anvil" by Joseph Beekman is a lovely blend of adventure, science fiction and magic. In a land where metal comes to live an evil witch controls an orphanage with the help of magic pumpkins and young Will, his dog and an reanimated robot travel the magic world to save to free the orphans and restore order.
This book is really well done, the heroes are so sweet and likeable, a pleasure to read even for a casual visitor to the genre. The language and the writing are confident and easy flowing.
