This book provides a learning-by-doing approach to the study of the Gospels. It allows students to uncover literary patterns, theological issues, and interpretive problems through close readings of primary sources. Questions are asked along the way that help readers understand the shape of the narrative, and the themes important to each Gospel writer.
I love this book. I was required to read it in Nancy Heisey's "New Testament Studies: Gospels" course my freshman year of college at EMU, and Cosby's writing, along with Heisey's engaging teaching strategies, lured me into becoming a Biblical Studies major. For anyone who is trying to understand the Gospels in a deeper way than we learn in Sunday School, this is the book I would recommend. Cosby is not only knowledgeable, but very easy to read and understand.
